@realDonaldTrump
Based on the Tariffs and Trade Barriers long placed on the U.S. and it great companies and workers by the European Union, if these Tariffs and Barriers are not soon broken down and removed, we will be placing a 20% Tariff on all of their cars coming into the U.S. Build them here!

(20,888 posts)Seriously after embarrassing yourself at the G7, perhaps silence is a nice option here. Your mixed in a Russian scandal, a child imprisonment scandal, and you think now is a good time to negotiate tariffs based on mythical beliefs on how trade works, then you must be smart like Trump.

(5,559 posts)This might be the first tariff area where there is some actual substance.
US tariff on cars is 2.5%, EU is 10%. So we actually do have an uneven trade situation. But of course the orange idiot jumps the shark and threatens a huge tariff far in excess of the imbalance. A reasonable person looking to make an issue if this would ask for their tariff to be reduced or ours raised to match. But of course we don't have a reasonable person in charge...

(65,168 posts). . .but in England, there are tons of Vauxhalls. That's a GM, made in England. So, while the tariff thing might be a bit unbalanced, there are still lots of cars made by american companies there.
Not so much in France and Italy, but lots in UK and some in Germany.
