state.
Then they came for students in a College, but I did not speak out because I was told it was not the right time.
Then they came for an elected official, but I did not speak out because I was told that more people should've been armed.
Then they came for people in a movie theater, but I did not speak out because I was told that people with guns have more rights than people have to the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Then they came for peaceful people worshiping in their church....
I can no longer remain silent.

(249 posts)You have the right to speak. You also have the right to own a gun. I could go on at length. What's your point?

(108,903 posts)Hard for any one to get a gun.
Right now, you're ahead on that - but that's how I vote.

(7,290 posts)And in the Heller decision, the Court made it very clear that while some restrictions are permissible, it isn't permissible to make it next to impossible for people to own firearms.

(108,903 posts)this is not a 'well regulated' any thing.
this is pandemonium.

(7,290 posts)That case came down squarely on the individual right to bear arms.
If there is truly support to heavily regulate gun ownership, then it shouldn't be difficult to amend the Constitution and repeal the 2nd Amendment.

(108,903 posts)glad to know you line up with 'the original intent' crew.
like they know - or you original intent.

(7,290 posts)I believe that the Founders did intend to guarantee an individual right to bear arms.
But like I said, if the American public doesn't believe in that right, they have the power to overturn it via their state legislatures and a Constitutional convention.
Likewise, if a future SCOTUS overturns Heller, then if the American public feels strongly enough about it, they can amend the Constitution to be clearer.

(249 posts)I just don't think that banning any specific type of gun or accessory will have any impact.

(39,451 posts)It just amazes me the number of gun owners that think anytime anyone says one word against guns that their immediate knee-jerk reaction is that people want to take away their guns.
Just like with the teabaggers, compromise and working together is a dirty word.
Yet, every now and then I come across a reasonable gun owner that agrees that gun laws need to be enforced.

(950 posts)Actually, they already came for the peaceful people worshiping in their church and got stopped by a private citizen w/ a concealed hand gun permit.
