Trump's GOP is looking to deeply cut food stamps -- hitting his voters hard

By Andrew Van Dam - The Washington Post/AJC Posted: 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2018

If Republicans succeed in their multi-front campaign to cut back on food stamps, the burden will fall heaviest on the working-class, rural white voters on whom President Donald Trump has staked the future of their party.

House Republicans on Thursday passed legislation that would require Americans ages 18 through 59 to either work part time or enroll in 20 hours per week of workforce training to receive food stamps.

On the same day, the White House unveiled a proposal to consolidate the public safety net — including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) — under a revamped health department. The program, the Post's Amy Goldstein and Caitlin Dewey write, "has an explicit aim of building standardized requirements that people must work or prepare for jobs to qualify for government help."

Until the worker and the poor have no safetynet at all. When they complete their mission people will realize how life was in the 18th and 19th century. The rich will take it all and laugh all the way to the bank.

If the unemployment rate exceeds a certain amount a county will be exempt, in some versions. Those are rural white counties. Blacks in cities are in urban counties with lower county wide unemployment rates. They will be cut.
