in any event, it probably wouldn't make sense for him to recuse himself unless the case had to do specifically with his own nomination.

No other qualification is required. There is no Gore v. Bush out there to take to the Court to question the 2016 election. Once the Electoral votes were counted, then it became a matter for Congress or the 25th Amendment.
