A fully Trump court will make the concept of "personhood" constitutional. Personhood as a national standard is the avowed goal of the religious right. Under such a policy ANY interference with reproduction would be considered illegal. What most Americans do not understand is that the religious right is in agreement with Catholic doctrine that makes even using condoms forbidden.
Everyone says well it could never bet that extreme. Yet we have Trump and the prospect of having a fully white supremacist theocratic court that would support religious government.
Trump has pretty much said he will give the religious right whatever it wants.

(37,648 posts)Republicans like their porn and their mistresses.
Think of it as anything that inhibits the freedom of women. Porn objectifies women, so it's safe. Birth control pills work to free women, so they are in danger of at least being restricted. I don't see that other methods of birth control, like diaphrams, can or would be stopped.

These states can not afford the explosion in births to their already stressed state and local tax structures.
These are not just births that will occur, but a long-term $19,000/year tax liability that lasts for almost 2 decades.
Right now, there is a constant birth / death equilibrium within states, and this will tamper with the birthing side.
As each year goes by, these extra births will slowly pyramid, until it hits the 18-year mark, and by that time, the state and local budgets will be multiple billions of dollars more that what the projected totals would be today.
Imagine having tens of thousands of additional births added to a state support system and local school-base.
Most of them are already moocher states, but there is only so much CA, NJ and NY can bail them out with socialism.
Problem: Nobody wants to mention this reality for fear that it "puts a price on the cost of a life," but it is a reality.
Fiscal conservatives want to pretend these additional births are some divine order, but will be extremely conflicted when the bill starts to really come due in 5-6 years, and by that time, they will be almost a billion dollars in perpetual annual debts.

(37,428 posts)GOP Congresscritters and judges who pander to the ultra-rich are obviating their jobs and the need for votes. We're not at that point yet, but the goal has always been direct and hereditary rule by the wealthy. The Jesus has always just been an excuse. The oppression of women and minorities has only shown us how they'd treat the rest of us, if they could.
And could just got a bit closer.

(36,895 posts)Pro-life is a myth.
The supposed pro-lifers cared not when the state of Texas (republican gov) deliberately killed living baby Sun Hudson against the mother's wishes because he was an inconvenience to the state.
It is not a matter of life to the supposed pro-lifers.
It is a matter of control

(1 post)I think it is important to note here that Antonin Scalia, historically the Courts leading conservative figure, believed with regard to rights such as abortion rights that they were neither constitutional or unconstitutional, but rather that they were a constitutional because the text simply did not address such issues. This conservative philosophy of limiting the power of the courts and constraining the influence of judges is an appealing concept to supporters of liberal policy. If the judges in the conservative majority follow in Scalias footsteps, the personhood concern ought not be a legitimate concern.

(14,537 posts)They tried to relabel birth control as an abortifacient. The religious right, believes even condoms are a sin. If they can outlaw abortion, they will be going after birth control. They will never stop.
n a spectacular act of complicity with the religious right, the Department of Health and Human Services Monday released a proposal that allows any federal grant recipient to obstruct a woman's access to contraception. In order to do this, the Department is attempting to redefine many forms of contraception, the birth control 40 percent of Americans use, as abortion. Doing so protects extremists under the Weldon and Church amendments. Those laws prohibit federal grant recipients from requiring employees to help provide or refer for abortion services. The "Definitions" section of the HHS proposal states,

(43,276 posts)People become so hardened by the cutthroat, survival-of-the-fittest, social and economic Darwinist Ayn Rand Paul Ryan World that they stop having sex. It all winds up in divorce court anyway, the men hollowed out financially and surrendering the house, the women emotionally traumatized because the fantasy went *poof!*.
Thus population growth slows because there aren't as many kids, which dampens the economy permanently but good. Awash in pollution from political policies, leading starkly unhappy lives, and unable to detox their bodies with exercise or happiness, cancers proliferate. Endless treatments are available for those with upscale health insurance, but for the masses, not much at all.
Eventually population begins to shrink. An economy built for growth implodes financially as every accounting debt must be wiped off the books in some fashion. We enter the Dark Ages, Bible in hand, afraid to articulate the truth about much of anything.
If you think it can't happen, did you think the last 18 months could happen? How about this month of June?

(3,765 posts)El Salvador where you can be arrested for having a miscarriage. Especially if you aren't at the hospital at the time. There have been cases of women having a miscarriage at home and then going to the hospital and them calling the police and you being accused of inducing an abortion or somehow cause your miscarriage and being arrested for murder.

This marks the lowest grade of ignorance, of which their political as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purpose."

(41,170 posts)a few years ago was arrested and got time I think because authorities claimed she had searched miscarriage meds online. Another news story in the Midwest maybe, about a young pregnant woman who was willing to have her baby and went to a routine doctors visit where she was asked about her general health. The woman mentioned she'd briefly used a drug, meth maybe but stopped quite a while ago. The staff contacted the police on the basis that she could be a danger to the life of her child. I don't recall the outcome of that case.

(5,762 posts)A constitutional amendment is a distinct possibility. The good news is, constitutional amendments are often agonizingly slow.
All the more reason to fight like hell for state houses. All of them. Dems should do to every state house what the GOP has done to NC. Make them bullet-proof.
Nice of them to write the playbook for us. Pity we didn't pick it up sooner.
