Rick Wilson mocks Trump for 'sucking up' to Putin before his 'quarterly review in Helsinki'

Republican strategist Rick Wilson mocked President Donald Trump for passing along Kremlin propaganda shortly before his summit was announced with Russian president Vladimir Putin.

The president once again vouched for Putin’s denial of election interference, which U.S. intelligence and law enforcement widely agree Russia engaged in to assist Trump over longtime Putin rival Hillary Clinton, and then lashed out against special counsel Robert Mueller.

The tweets came just ahead of the Kremlin announcement that Trump would meet one-on-one with Putin July 16 in Helsinki, after taking part in the annual NATO conference and visiting Britain.

Wilson said the president’s tweets were intended to confuse and roil his base as the Mueller probe draws closer to the White House.
