Dear Fourth Estate. We Love You. You're the BEST Estate. Right now, you're all we've got.
Underpaid. Overworked. Constantly criticized. Derided by the president. Unappreciated. Lacking in job security. Deserving of the respect and gratitude of the citizenry. In these dark days, a remaining glimmer of hope that truth and common sense will someday soon again prevail.
A little newspaper in a town of only 30,000 people. I read that you do your best to cover the town sporting events, Council meetings, and to expose corruption. That’s been the role of newspapers since the founding of our country.
Reporters at other newspapers are afraid of the anti-media fervor that is being promulgated by populist blowhards, who stir up hostility without regard for the safety of actual human beings who do this important job in our society.
We hope you hang in there, in spite of the jerks, the scary guys, the crazy president, the unreasonable beancounters, and the skyrocketing prices of newsprint thanks to Trump’s tariffs.
Like teachers, we know you don’t get paid enough to put up with this.
Long live you devotees of getting truth out, telling good stories, exposing corruption, and providing the facts. Long live the Best Estate.
