Bundt cake tantrum could cost this guy his $204,000 job

No matter how good it tastes, Bundt cake isn’t worth this much.

Sunrise City Manager Richard Salamon had a fit when a local baker refused to honor his coupon for a free cake, and now the $3.99 deal could cost him his $204,000-a-year job.

City commissioners are discussing Salamon’s future after he got nasty when told his coupon for the free mini Bundt at Nothing Bundt Cakes had expired, the co-owner said.

Dannie Augustin told commissioners Tuesday night that Salamon came into the Sunrise bakery a few weeks ago and asked her employee to “break the rules” and honor the coupon.

It could well have been just during the promotional period that they actually baked the mini bundt cakes. If that's the case, there probably wasn't one available when the moron with the expired coupon came in. Otherwise, I'd agree with you about honoring old coupons, but it might well have been impossible to do so.

So if people actually come into the store, it's better to keep customers happy and honor the coupon. Of course if they say no, it is what it is. I agree with you that he shouldn't flip out and everyone else that said that they might not have been able to honor it.

New Sunrise city manager gets job contract, aims to stay out of news

</snip>

..."This is my eighth or ninth job with the city," Salamon said Tuesday after the meeting.

Salamon, 50, grew up in Cocoa Beach and now lives with his family in Sunrise.

His late father, Milt Salamon, was a longtime newspaper columnist for Florida Today.

But Salamon says, only partly in jest, that he hopes to stay out of the news...

I've been really poor and even then, I'd never try to use an expired coupon to get something for free. I've known people like that though and it blows my mind how cheap they are.

his job is in jeopardy. Getting fired over this seems extreme. Someone doesn’t like him and is looking for a reason to get rid of him. That’s my opinion.

getting new customers is hard work.
a coupon might have just done that.

smile, honor the coupon and hope he comes back

sometimes you can't on a special limited production no longer available item
and some folks will abuse the store.
but generally speaking...
honor the damn coupon
