When all seems grim, you see something like this:

In the middle of a residential neighborhood at 8 AM, I came across two old men, they had to be 85 years old or older. They could barely walk (this one had a cane), but they were out carrying these signs. When we waved they both waved back with their signs with big grins!

The other man (not in the picture) was all bent over, but still had his sign, bigger than this one. Restores your hope in humanity, at least in a small way?

Central CT is my kind of country now, a mix.

thanks for letting me know - back in the golden age of the 90s, the first house I attempted to purchase was in Wethersfield, off of the Silas Deane Highway. (the deal never came together, so I ended up buying in Newington a year or so later and that worked out great while I was there.)

if that guy had parents that came to the US around the turn of the century (19th century into the 20th), he (or his mother or father) could very well have been that era's version of a dreamer. It's supposedly almost impossible for everybody to have come through Ellis Island that claims to have come through there...

I saw the manifest of the ship he got off of in Baltimore. He was with his mother and it had him listed as 2 or 3 years old. It also listed where they were headed, which was Buffalo.

My Paternal Great grandfather came here from Ireland around 1855, he was about 5. He came here for economic reasons with his parents (Potato Famine), just like many of those from south of the border are doing today. He wasn't taken from his parents.

My Paternal grandmother came here from Ireland around 1900, she was 10, she wasn't taken from her parents.

...White guys, who are often discussed as being responsible for this corrupt racist pig inhabiting the White House I am especially pleased with this affirmation that such men among us exist.

I had dinner last night with 10 or 12 such men. They were almost all scientists or retired scientists, but we do exist, those of us who - unlike Republicans who will do anything for short term personal gain - love our country, our planet, and humanity, and most importantly, the young people we will soon leave behind.

Thank you very much for this uplifting post.

I suggest that we give Texas back to Mexico from whom we stole it at the point of the gun - assuming they actually want it - and leave all the ignorant racist uneducated assholes who live there to enjoy it, while we invite any Texans who may actually love the United States more than kissing Putin's punk's ass to move to the United States.

Believe me, I'd love it if the racists had their own country where they can all wave their confederate flags and wallow in their pig shit.

Of course, after the idiot bankruptcy king Trump drives the country into bankruptcy like he drove his hotels, and finds out that there's no one left to bail his fat ass out, the Mexican army will probably be able to kick down the cheap wall, and take whatever they want.

The ersatz "patriots" with the Confederate flags clearly hate this country, and have gone a long way to destroying it.

That brought a tear to my eye and a ray of hope.

He knows

Something popping to mind seeing tweets about past generations surviving/not breaking from all the dark shit: A lot of them did die. Plenty did break.

Surviving means a lot of things, & fighting doesn't mean *we're* the ones who see the benefit. We're fighting beyond ourselves.

I did some searching around, and found out more about this man. Turns out there was an article and video about him on the Hartford Courant website a month ago.

He's 78 years old, and has been walking 2.2 miles every day since January 25 - rain/shine/sleet/snow.
