Sick of hearing the phrase Company X is "providing jobs", as if it is a GIFT to workers

Like Stockholm syndrome, we have adopted the language of the captors. The devaluation of a worker’s time is so complete, we don’t even notice the distorted language.

If I buy a car, I pay cash, and I’m the “buyer” and the car dealer is the “seller”. The car dealer did not “provide a car”. They sold a car, and in exchange, they received money.

Companies don’t “provide” jobs. They hire workers, they may have “job openings” — a set of tasks that need to be done (or decisions to be made) for which they can justify hiring someone. They aren’t giving those paychecks for free. They buy the knowledge, services and time of the workers, and they pay for that knowledge, services and time with wages or salaries. It’s a two way transaction, not a gift.

Does anyone still stand, in America?

We provide the work, we provide the labor; it is on our backs the executives can enjoy bonuses and it is with our work that the 1% can eat caviar and truffles. They aren't the ones getting the eggs and digging the truffles up, right?
