THE REASONS for the tension between the United States and Russia are well-established. Russia seized Crimea from Ukraine, instigated a war in eastern Ukraine, intervened to save the dictatorship of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, interfered in the U.S. presidential election campaign to harm Hillary Clinton and help Donald Trump, poisoned a former intelligence officer on British soil and continues to meddle in the elections of other democracies. Yet on Wednesday in the Kremlin, President Vladimir Putin brushed it all aside and delivered the Russian maskirovka, or camouflage, answer that it is all Americas fault.
Meeting with John Bolton, the presidents national security adviser, Mr. Putin declared that the tensions are in large part the result of an intense domestic political battle inside the U.S. Then Mr. Putins aide Yuri Ushakov insisted that Russia most certainly did not interfere in the 2016 election in the United States. On Thursday morning, Mr. Trump echoed them both on Twitter: Russia continues to say they had nothing to do with Meddling in our Election!
Why is Mr. Trump kowtowing again? The U.S. intelligence community has concluded that Russia did attempt to tilt the election using multiple campaigns, including cyberintrusions and insidious social media fakery. Would it be so difficult to challenge Mr. Putin about this offensive behavior? A full accounting has yet to be made of the impact on the election, but Mr. Bolton did not mince words last year when he described Russian interference as a true act of war and said, We negotiate with Russia at our peril. And now?
Summits can be productive, even maybe especially when nations are at odds. In theory, a meeting between Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin, now scheduled for next month in Helsinki, could be useful. But a meeting aimed at pleasing Mr. Putin is naive and foolhardy. A meeting aimed at pleasing Mr. Putin at the expense of traditional, democratic U.S. allies would be dangerous and damaging.
Just as Mr. Bolton was flattering Mr. Putin, Russia was engaging in subterfuge on the ground in Syria. The United States, Russia and Jordan last year negotiated cease-fire agreements in southwestern Syria, along the border with Jordan and the Golan Heights. In recent days, the United States has warned Russia and its Syrian allies not to launch an offensive in the area, where the rebel forces hold parts of the city of Daraa and areas along the border. The State Department vowed there would be serious repercussions and demanded that Russia restrain its client Syrian forces. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called the Russian foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, saying an offensive would be unacceptable. All to no avail; Syria is bombing the area.
This is what happens when Mr. Trump signals, repeatedly, that he is unwilling or unable to stand up to Russian misbehavior. We are on dangerous ground. Either Mr. Trump has lost touch with essential U.S. interests or there is some other explanation for his kowtowing that is yet unknown.

It might be the most obvious explanation of all.

(7,768 posts)One thing that BLOTUS has always, always wanted was 'Trump Tower Moscow'. And nothing happens or gets built in Russia without Putin's blessing. Nothing. Putin can play with donald like a cat with a mouse and donald will let him.
Then there's loans, money laundering and who knows what other nefarious things we've yet to learn. I would hope and assume that Mueller has all his tax returns. Their examination will fill in a lot of blanks.
Come ON Mr. Mueller...NAIL HIS ASS.

(34,661 posts)Trump is a very flawed person. Appears we have the Manchurian Candidate in real life.
This is Treason and Team Mueller will prove it.

(2,692 posts). . .I'd be prostrate before the Lord asking for a treason indictment and conviction. It is not completely impossible, but Mueller will play by the rules and bring against Trump only charges he feels will hold up in court. And treason, in the U.S., is rarely brought to trial because it so hard to prove.

(34,661 posts)there will come a day in the near future,when,ex-agency heads as well as the Minority Leaders of the House and Senate oversight Committees, are going to release the real truth and then and only then, will we see the words Treason and Collusion with a Foreign Power to cause harm to the USA.
And these info releases are going to happen in a form of a Pod-Cast or Internet based News Outlet.

(2,692 posts)And Mueller probably already knows how and for how much. When the full story breaks, Trump is going down and he's set to take a lot of his loyalists with him. Sorry, Jared. Sorry little Donnie.

(14,167 posts)He's a tool of Russia. And they need to start putting the evidence together and drawing the appropriate conclusion.
We are being controlled by a foreign power. And our "elected" majority don't have a problem with it -- because they are probably also bought and paid for.
The only thing that is going to turn this around is financial ruin, I'm starting to think. Power and money (ultimately) are all these Republicans care about. Part of our attack needs to be figuring out how to make their ties to Russia unprofitable.

(2,977 posts)For fucks sake, we all know why, what's with the coy bullshit? "Gee, why is he doing this? It's such a fucking mystery and you all must be fucking morons if you believe that we really don't know why the fuck he's sucking Putin's dick. but we'll just go along and keep pretending because it's not fucking polite to point out that Trump is piece of fucking shit traitor".
Either Mr. Trump has lost touch with essential U.S. interests or there is some other explanation for his kowtowing that is yet unknown
Right. As yet unknown. Fucking bullshit it's 'unknown'.

(2,692 posts)I agree that what we're dealing with here is an improperly installed president who has been betraying his country both to ensure his continued high-on-the-hog lifestyle, thanks to Putin, and also to keep Putin from revealing things he knows about the president that will show Trump to be a pee-tape pervert and a traitor to his own people and country.
But wait for Mueller to conclude his investigation and his team to issue indictments against Trump, Trump Jr., and others. If the evidence is there, and we all know it is, probably in greater detail than we imagine, Trump may find that the time to resign -- a la Nixon -- has passed and that Federal prison, if not the gallows, await.

(11,949 posts)Do you really thing the Ranking Member of one of the most powerful committees who is an experienced and season attorney would just throw that out Willy-nilly.
They have the goods on him. Republicans and Democrats know it. But it is currently classified.
This explains their recently panicked behavior.
Schiffs comments were a shot across the Republicans bow. Telling them that if the try to let Trump off the hook and cover everything up then fuck the classification, it will be released.
It is Benghazi all over. That was a CIA operation and all details were classified. The republicans were in a no lose situation. Hammer Hillary for 2 years with her not having a defense or push to prosecute if classified info refuting their claims were released.
Schiff is signally he will not be playing that game again.
Anyway, that is my theory, admittedly it might be a little conspiracy driven.

(7,768 posts)I LOVE Adam Schiff!
I did see part of an interview with Blitzer on CNN and he said the G.O.P. has the 4 Horsemen running things.
Wolf asked him if he would name them and he did! Nunes, Meadows, Gowdy and Jordan.
Yeah, Schiff is wicked smart, he knows a LOT more than most. He has to be disgusted and sickened by the shit Nunes and the other G.O.P. rat-bastards are pulling. And that's all with the blessing of Paul Ryan, of course.
Do you think things are so critical that Schiff will find a way to leak devastating information? I think it's gotten to that point, myself.
I know one thing, I am popping champagne corks when Adam is the House Intel Chairman! (and it won't be the cheap stuff either!)

(19,993 posts)All this "deep state" bashing and attacking democratic institutions and allies may have roots in anti-Union sentiment that has lingered since the Civil War. Trump's Republican Party of Confederates needs the support of an ally on the outside. Voila! Pooty Poot is happy to help with whatever furthers his own agenda of MRGA.
