Over the past year, state legislatures in Iowa, Louisiana and Mississippi have advanced strict limits on abortion that some lawmakers believe could trigger a successful challenge to the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion nationwide.
"I think it's virtually certain that some or all of those laws will wind up before the Supreme Court," said CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin. "And they will get a much more favorable reception with any of the judges on President Trump's list of 25 possible nominees."
When Trump ran for president in 2016, he pledged to appoint "pro-life" justices to the Supreme Court, while his running mate, now-vice president Mike Pence, said that he hoped to see Roe v. Wade end up on the "ash heap of history."

(13,426 posts)They do not understand how Roe will be overturned when so few people support overturning it. They do not understand the laser-like focus of evangelicals on this event. They do not understand how the 2014 elections made this possible.
We are doomed when so much ignorance abounds in this country.

Trump and his religious fanatic party will not stop at ANYTHING to kill Roe!
It's dead by next year easy.
Then get ready for the coat hanger death stories to start up.
Oh and I fully assume Trump's party will push the death penalty for any woman caught attempting to end her pregnancy for any reason.

I expect those people to be mildly upset but they will shrug their shoulders and move on. It was obviously not high on their list or they would have known better.

Many informed people think it's not a well-reasoned decision, AND many well informed and well-intentioned think the remedy should be in the STATES; that's where it is.

(19,993 posts)In the past Michele Bachmann and a few other loons have advocated eliminating the minimum wage. With the loons in charge it could happen. Or how about contriving a way to legalize slavery under some other name? And maybe some other plutocratic dreams. And much more voter suppression and...
