I have a bunch of Trumper friends on Facebook that I intentionally didn't unfriend since I was curious if they would ever crack.
This morning one of them posted a link about the shooting and said that if there were people with concealed guns then some of the 5 victims would be alive. I first stated the fact that the police were there in about 2 min and were able to take care of the situation to save lives. I also added that her "what if" scenario has cannot be proven and to not state this as a fact. I added in a "what if" scenario that how does she KNOW that there was not someone in the building with a concealed gun and if there was how does she KNOW that they didn't freeze and not know what to do in those few min before the police got there.
A few hours later she responded and APOLOGIZED, that she didn't know they responded so fast and said her only fear is that Dems want to take the 2nd amendment away. Someone else responded to her to not apologize for stating her opinion but saying that the first step for solving problems is to be open to discussion.
Last night a different Trumper posted a tweet from Dinesh D'Souza (which I can't remember what it said it wasn't important) but someone responded to her that they were SO SCARED of the Blue Wave and that they feel like it is hopeless there is nothing they can do about it since there are so many angry DEMS and there is no way they can beat the Blue Wave. The original Trumper responded to just be sure to vote and drive people to the polls and then if by some "miracle" they beat the Blue Wave then just pray to God to save them.
I just found all of this to be very interesting and gave me even more momentum to keep doing what we are doing and keep fighting every day!
Have any of you seen anything similar in your encounters with Trumpers?

(7,725 posts)Why in the world would you still use a platform that helped usher in dt? I don't care if it is convenient. I trashed fb early 2016 and am glad did. What a cluster fuck.

(22,822 posts)You accused the poster of supporting a platform that helped Trump win the election. And then you compounded your error by accusing anyone who was offended by your unpleasant post of "getting bitter."

(7,725 posts)They have that advertising angle that keeps folks hooked in. It's free and easy to do and does work well. I shut mine off anyway and went old school.
It will go the way of Myspace. I hope it doesn't all cost us any more of our legacy. To each his own.

(16,110 posts)but I'm on as the contact person for our household. We have a lot of relatives on FB and it is a quick easy way to get information out, so I keep an account.
As to the original posting. So far I've mostly seen the Trumpers I know doubling down on the crazy. Today they were all about "if there wasn't fake news, there would be no need to kill reporters".

(108 posts)I see the negative reaction to your post. But some people don't know how irresponsible and self-serving Facebook has been. People are their products. Your information is what made them millions. They're giving out that information to other companies. They sat on Cambridge Analytica for months. They also continue to harvest your data using tricks and most don't realize it. Some used this data to profit and some used it in the election.
Now for the OP response, there are people on Twitter that express their regrets. But tribal politics can be hard to shake off. This is in light of all things done including tariffs and the family separation policy. Some just aren't informed enough or don't care to learn.

(7,725 posts)If something I used impacted my Country so badly that we have dt as pres. and it helped the Russians overthrown my govt., I can do without 'the 'convenience'. I lived 4/5ths of my life without a computer and can take it or leave it any day. This dedication to fb just isn't something I feel like fighting about. it's Friday.
I hadn't noticed the negative reaction. At this point, if someone rips into me, I just put people on ignore. Life's too short.

They have no valid issues, none.
Every single one of their so called issues fall to the wayside when countered by the facts. Every one of them.
Nail them to the wall, period. Start calling them out on it!

SWBTATTReg
(22,143 posts)very opinionated, judgmental, and not prone to listen to the facts, true facts at all. So why waste our time? I'd rather spend my time ignoring them, concentrate on getting the vote out, and have a single-mindedness towards our end goal, wiping out the red wave in Congress and replacing it with a blue wave, and then turn our attention to president rump, who's just as worthless as a bucket of water in a flood.
ProudLib72
(17,984 posts)And there have been some articles about how the blue wave is not so large anyway.
All this is very interesting because, if these characters on FB are worried in light of all the propaganda, then it means the must be seeing through some of the repuke lies.

(46,166 posts)But my question is silly since it's having to live peacefully in the world with brown people that's at the heart of their fears. From that flow the rest.
But it's still nice that the first person apologized. Sounds like she values your friendship and has at least a smidgen of common sense.

(6,974 posts)I live in a very DEEP blue part of LA County, so when I go shopping, run errands, I really don't come across that many tRumpers, and if I do they're pretty quiet--I just see tRump bumper stickers or they're wearing a stupid MAGA hat or tRump tee shirt.
However, friends in different parts of the country say that they have friends/relatives who like you said, are starting to crack, in that they really don't throw as many of those "cute" little ridiculous phrases like MAGA, Hillary lost, get over it, fake news etc. @ them. A buddy's tRumputin-loving relatives (3 families) in Ohio have not been #winning the past year and a half due to BIG health care bills bought on because someone got chronically sick in their family. It's so bad that all 3 families had to move in together. They're fighting and all over each other like scorpions in a barrel blaming Blacks, Hispanics ANYBODY but themselves..ANYBODY but their boy's tRumpcare for their problems But what's not funny, is that my friend told me that they're the type of deviants who don't care if they're in the gutter--just as long as they have their guns and as long as Ni@@ers, wetbacks are down there WITH them You have to be mentally ill to think like that. No matter how bad my life has gotten, and I've had some not so good times in life as we all have had, I've never wanted to "drag anybody down with me so to speak." Now, I don't pity a tRumputin voter if they blame others for their lot in life, if they're racist assholes and especially if they keep supporting that fat treasonous, racist turd knowing that he's destroying their way of lives and this country.
But hey, if they 💖 him and his polices, and if they 💖 being in debt and struggling as a direct result of him, then I love that and want it FOR them
Dem_4_Life
(1,765 posts)But overall I find it very encouraging that so many seem to be showing signs of changing slightly or getting quiet (which says a lot).
I just hope that in Texas we can finally have enough voters to beat the Gerrymandering numbers since they won't change the Gerrymandering districts until Democrats are in charge to make that happen.

(92 posts)For me. False equivalencies mostly from the right.
I do work with someone who seemed to be a supporter. Very religious. I rent a space from her.
I overheard her tell a client, "i didnt mean to upset people, i was just trying to find something nice to say (about trump)". This must have been a third person these two interacted with. To this, the new client, an older gentleman, said "There isnt much nice to say about him." He leaves then she starts talking to me about the Trump Phophecies book. I stared straight ahead and when she finished i told her i hate him and all the reasons why. Lots of statistics which i know dont matter to someone operating largely on faith and visions and "signs". But she did stop talking about it.
I hope distressing three people who pay you, in a day, with that topic might have had an impact. Not sure.
