(5,101 posts)I thought it was interesting. It needs to be hammered.
Day by day, Trump is an increasing danger.

(66,388 posts)Things suck in this country right now, and Harlan Ellison, my favorite writer and a staunch liberal political activist, died yesterday.
But I'm glad I have my DU friends. You all give me courage...

(8,200 posts)The Republican Party has become the party of amorality. They are the ultimate justifier of the axiom that the ends justify the means/ They are sunk to the level in which they are able to result to the most vile means to achieve your goals. Many fear that if their power is threaten, such as the removal of Trump, that they could incite an armed revolt.
This is not an exaggeration, but was clearly express by Trump during the campaign for the presidency. He stated that if he lost to Hilary Clinton that the situation could be corrected by his supporters who worship the Second Amendment. How many times did he incite his supporters to actually assault anyone of protested his vile policies? He even went as far as saying that he would not uphold one of the most cherished principles that assures the peaceful transfer of power, that a losing candidate would concede the election. This was a de facto threat that he would encourage armed rebellion. etc., etc., etc.

(8,200 posts)I have had discussions in the past that were basically how to achieve and resolve a problem. Such as the approach to solving health care needs. Both want to improve the situation and the discussion is exploring what would be the best solution. There could be radical differences but that isn't the situation today. Just for example health care. Today's radical conservative Republican is willing to deny the person care and let them die rather than support any government sponsored program. There is absolutely no opportunity to even come to compromise.

Maybe there is no first version, and this was written for the example.

(5,754 posts)This is Bob. Bob is liberal and horrified by what is going on. This is Sally, who's more of a traditional conservative. She's also horrified, recognizing that these aren't ordinary times . Be like Bob and Sally.

(1,670 posts)I haven't met any Trump voters who would admit to being horrified by this administration. If they are they're keeping quiet. What I see is most Trump voters seem to have some kind of reaction formation. They chose Trump, he said he was the best, they believed it and will loudly proclaim that because admitting otherwise would be admitting they were marks.

(98 posts)Once in a while my wife pulls my chain by jokingly saying something positive about Trump like she's serious and I fall for it. I can only imagine how it would change our relationship if she meant it.

(22,670 posts)Both divorced in 2017. The wives have gone their separate ways as have the husbands. As much as they try, they don't bring up the political differences with me, but the women now live more liberal lifestyles and the men are living, what can only be labeled extreme RW lifestyles (Talibanish theocratic in nature). Yeah, politics had nothing to do with the friction there.

(1,017 posts)This Is part of the reason Hillary lost. People don't really care that he said politically incorrect racist, ableist, transgenderphobist.... stuff. They care about the issues.
She should be mad because she's going to lose her reproductive rights, not that Trump made an offensive comment or joke.
