FLAPPABLE: Melissa Hurtado for CA-SD14
Homegrown
Melissa Hurtado grew up in the Valley. As the daughter of immigrant parents and the first in her family to graduate from college, Melissa knows firsthand what it means to achieve the American dream. Thats why Melissa Hurtado is running for State Senate to advocate for all our families for access to healthcare, quality schools, good paying jobs and the opportunity for a better life.
Access to Healthcare
As a healthcare advocate, Melissa works to protect Medicare, Medi-Cal and health insurance for children (CHIP). She fights for funding to expand clinics and hospitals, bring down drug prices, and educate our communities about how to stay healthy. Melissa will continue to champion access to healthcare, including universal healthcare coverage for everyone.
Quality Schools
For Melissa the chance for a good education opened the door for opportunity and a college degree. In her work for the Fresno Teachers Association, Melissa helped ensure that our teachers had the resources to provide our children with the best education possible. As a Councilmember, she supported the Clean Dream Act to protect DACA students and provide pathways to citizenship.
Job Growth
As a community organizer for public employees, Melissa helped lead the fight for good wages, healthcare coverage and retirement security. She believes the Valley should have jobs that pay workers enough to provide for their families. On the Sanger City Council, she saved and created high-wage jobs. Melissa will work to bring new businesses and industry to the Valley and diversify our local economy.
Valley Values
Growing up, Melissas father taught her the value of hard work. From her mother, she learned about perseverance. Melissa Hurtado came home to the Valley to serve her community and build a better life for our families. She believes that by working together we can provide opportunity for children, good jobs for our families and economic prosperity for our communities.
