Our Republic is indeed facing a mortal threat of fascism from within

In a different political discussion forum I responded thusly to a Trumper who repreated the canard the Democrats want open borders:

Trump constantly tweets that Dems want "open borders" and "don't care about crime." Like all effective propaganda it is repeated over and over again by Fox News and RW talk radio, but it is all just another BIG LIE which conned fools like you readily swallow then regurgitate.

You are being lied to repeatedly on issues big and small, to the point where your entire ideological/political belief system is built on a foundation of lies.

Every time you hear a lie repeated it sounds like truth to you because it confirms what you have already been misled to believe.

That is how fascism comes to America -- wrapped in the flag and carrying a bible, deceit disguised as virtue.

When they put their trust in a president who has issued thousands of documented lies and has a close relationship with the chief propagandist at Fox while calling legitimate mainstream journalism "fake news" and "enemy of the people" ...

When that president expresses admiration for authoritarian dictators and attacks our closest friends among Western democracies ...

When that president takes the word of Vlad Putin over the conclusion of our own intelligence agencies and he constantly disparages our institutions of law ...

And when that president tips the scales of the Supreme Court while his party controls the House and the Senate and aids his undermining of the FBI and Dept of Justice instead of fulfilling their Constitutional duty of checks & balances ...
