I have vacillated back and forth on the matter.
At first, I thought he should be impeached as soon as possible. But the argument was that he would never be convicted in the Senate so it would just be a waste of time. On top of that, it would only inspire the right-wing voters in the mid-term elections.
Then, the argument was that we should wait and see what Robert Mueller comes up with before we even think of impeachment. We should wait to see the charges against him. As if we have not seen enough already.
Now, I have returned to the first square. I feel that he has done more than enough to be impeached and continues to ignore the laws of the Constitution he swore to uphold, i.e., the emoluments clause and conflicts of interest. We don't know if his foreign policy is driven by personal interest or in the interest of the country but it appears to be the former?
In my opinion, it is important that history record where each of our elected Representatives stand in defense of our Constitution and our laws. That is more important than whether or not he is convicted, I now believe.

(62,444 posts)He has abused, and is abusing, the office in order to interfere with a legitimate criminal investigation, and therefore should be impeached. Period. End of story. It is that simple.
Whatever other legal consequences there may be is thoroughly beside the point.

(4,394 posts)We can't afford to let Trump and his enablers slink away with their tails between their legs for a few years the way Bush and his enablers were allowed to.
The reason "there's no difference between the two parties" resonates with some voters is because too often the Democrats play politics instead of standing up and saying "This is wrong and the people doing it need to be put away where they will no longer harm society."

The reality is what Gerald Ford said when asked "what is an impeachable offense":
""The only honest answer is that an impeachable offense is whatever a majority of the House of Representatives considers it to be at a given moment in history."

(92,138 posts)House, it is a moot issue, unless there are enough republicans in the House who will go for it, and all indications are that is not the case at this time
2018 will determine if it is even possible, unless House republicans suddendly change their viewpoint
