he Archdiocese of Washington was forced to issued an apology after a raging priest kicked a mourning family our of his church during a funeral and then proceeded to call the cops on them.
According to Fox5, the altercation happened at Saint Marys Catholic Church in Charlotte Hall, Maryland on Tuesday, when Reverend Michael Briese blew up at the family.
As hundreds of people mourned the death of 54-year-old Agnes Hicks, someone knocked over and damaged the churchs sacred golden chalice when they went in for a hug near the altar.
Thats when all hell broke loose. He literally got on the mic and said, There will be no funeral, there will be no mass, everyone get the hell out of my church, recalled Shanice Chisely, the daughter of Hicks. He disrespected our family, he disrespected my mother. He called my mother a thing. He said, Get this thing out of my church! Everyone get the hell out of my church! It was very sad. Ive never seen anything like that before.
According to the family, when they exited the church with the casket they found police waiting for them outside.

(63,221 posts)What kind of priest behaves like that? He's obviously got issues. How dare he treat a grieving family like that. What a miserable bastard!

Catholic priests cover the whole range of human goodness and badness.
My great uncle and aunt lived in Reagan Republican Family Values California. The priests assigned to the parish reflected that. This parish was full of people who were still complaining about Vatican II, even people much younger than my wife and I who'd been born years after. They'd kneel before the imaginary, long removed, altar rails and the priests would put Host directly into their mouths.
Every other Mass in that parish was a diatribe against abortion or the infiltration of LGBT people into popular culture, the usual "love the sinner, reject the sin" flaming bullshit. Occasionally Masses would be celebrated in Latin.
When my great uncle passed the local priest, who dutifully came to the wake and everything proper, all the dots and crossed tees, made it quite clear to everyone that he thought my great uncle was going to hell. My great uncle had worked in Hollywood, had some very Hollywood liberal opinions, and had married my totally corrupted-by-Hollywood great aunt; his one true love.
It might have been horrifying to our family had anyone taken Father-Whats-His-Name seriously, but most of us were thinking "Way to go, old man! You must have been doing something right to have been this guy's hair shirt."
