Nunes to LeBron: Brace yourself for California's taxes

Rep. Devin Nunes (R) took to social media on Sunday to caution NBA star LeBron James that, by moving to Nunes’s home state of California, he's about to pay the highest taxes of his career.

Nunes, a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means and chairman of the Intelligence panel, sarcastically joked the former Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat player should have negotiated a higher salary with the Los Angeles Lakers so he could afford the tax hike.

"LOL! Prepare to pay the highest taxes you ever have in your career!!" he tweeted in response to the California Democratic Party's tweet welcoming James to the state.

James, who on Sunday announced a $154 million contract with the Lakers, has in the past been a vocal supporter of Democratic candidates for public office.

and take Rohrbacher and Issa with you.

Yeah, taxes are high, but I feel that we get something back for them. Cool fact: if a public library in California gets state money, any state resident can get a library card from it. That's how I got my heavily used San Francisco library card - they have a much better electronic collection than my local library.

Plus, we have co-ordinated disaster coverage for fires, and a fine state park system. And a rainy day fund with money in it again for the next time our typical boom-and-bust economy crashes (the last GOP governor spent it down).

9. He will pay about $16M over 4 years in CA income tax

and, of course, will not be able to deduct that amount from his federal taxes.

However, that will leave him with $138M to pay federal taxes and scrape by on... barely enough for a house.

but republicans are so stingy , greedy , resentful that they would be bitter over the taxes they had to pay rather than be happy at what they have .

He is taxed on the games played in CA. So he will have his 41 home games plus the games against the Warriors, Clippers and Kings. So for the majority of games he will owe CA taxes. For the remaining games he will pay taxes in AZ, UT, TX, and so on. Same thing for all pro sports, they are taxed in their home state for the games played in their home states, then pay state taxes in each state for all other games played in the various states.

Now, I'm not sure how the playoffs factor in to tax liability. I would assume they would be prorated into the equation.

Regardless, you original statement is on target, unlike Nunes, James isn't a fucking dick and will pay up.
