General Discussion

And that's a general strike. If enough people (say 50-75 million) went on strike to protest this fascist regime, we wouldn't have to wait for a new Congress.
The problem, of course, is organizing such a thing. Getting enough people to put their livelihoods on the line, and at the same time. Most individuals can't risk a strike, unless they know for certain that tens of millions of others (including immediate co-workers) are doing the same. Even in this social media age, it's hard to envision organizing a massive general strike.
But absent such a strike, I'm afraid voting in November is all we've really got. Because even indefinite detention of families with young children, along with separation of young children from their parents, is acceptable to Republicans in Congress.

(3,483 posts)And they dont. Most people couldnt care less about any of this. They dont even know its hsppening and they dont bother to vote. Throw in the twenty-five percent who worship this asshole and the people who simply cant afford to strike and forget about it. Its a great idea but there will never be enough people on board to make the impact necessary to change minds. The people paying attention are too polarized. Half of them actively want this shit.

(1,009 posts)are easier to organize, and don't put ones job on the line. They have been shown to be effective in other countries.
Even if it's only those people "resisting". It doesn't have to be the whole population to put a dent in corporations' bottom line.
And perhaps just the drumbeat of a possible economic boycott (a mass campaign of an impending one) is all it would take to work.
I've been bringing this up for a year...it seems like people (not necessarily on here, but generally) aren't interested in reining in their spending to necessities only. Is it really that much of a sacrifice considering what is at stake??

(10,721 posts)But, like a general strike, it's tough to organize in sufficient numbers.
