Liberals tell Schumer to scrap decorum and civility in battling Trump

By Edith Honan and Felicia Sonmez
July 2 at 11:13 PM

NEW YORK — Braving the scorching summer heat, dozens of liberal activists showed up at a Brooklyn synagogue Monday night for a chance to question Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer about the Supreme Court, immigration and resistance to President Trump.

Instead, the New York Democrat had to phone it in — quite literally — as a mechanical problem left his plane grounded in central New York some 200 miles away, forcing the last-minute cancellation of his town hall.

Yet that didn’t deter the activists from peppering him with questions, and the senator spent an hour answering.

Could Schumer ensure that every Democrat would line up against Trump’s nominee to replace Supreme Court Justice Anthony M. Kennedy? Was the senator prepared to put civility aside and be ruthless to prevent the court’s shift to the right?

“This is not a fait accompli,” Schumer said on the conference call. He said that Democrats would have little success in delaying the vote on Trump’s nominee and should focus on driving home the point that the future of abortion rights and the Affordable Care Act depend on the pick.

This battle was fought in November 2016, as we were all saying. The press only wanted to talk about Clinton's email server.

That's a way to look just like the GOP.

There are artful ways to skirt civility which when mixed with plain talk of Trumpublican abuses will help flip Congress.

The rewards for it are just around the corner. I can feel it. Let's not rush into things. Maybe if we give civility and decorum and being the adults in the room another 25 years......THEN we'll start seeing results.

They keep going lower and we keep going higher......soon we'll be soaring, SOOOOOOOOOOAARING to success.

I shouldn't need to add this, but just in case:

Someone better get down in the muck & start flinging shit back at these fuckers or we're going to lose our country. If Schumer doesn't want to be the one, fine, but don't take to task the ones who do.

...that they're willing to fight for them when it's clear to anyone with eyes and ears and any sense of history that they aren't even fighting for themselves.

There are a lot of things that are in our control as voters and things we can do as Democrats to sell the party. But when the actual elected officials and people in charge show time and time again that they aren't willing to do anything other than the bare bones minimum, path of least resistance, no selling involved work then there's nothing any of us can say or do to counteract the impression of Democrats as weak, timid, feckless, and too concerned with playing things safe.

The reason people like Maxine, and Bernie, and Ted Lieu, and Alexandra get so much press and so much traction and so much support isn't that they are doing or saying anything bold or revolutionary or completely out of left field. It's that they are willing to verbalize and vocalize those things when so many run from them or hide their support of such things beyond "It's on the website! It's in the platform!!"
