Trump tariffs could add $5,000 to price of new vehicle in U.S.

Prices of new cars and trucks could jump by several thousand dollars in the U.S. if President Donald Trump follows through on his threat to raise tariffs on imports.

The same likely would hold true even if a particular car is made in the U.S. because analysts believe automakers would spread the cost of tariffs among many different vehicles to avoid putting at a disadvantage any of their models made in foreign markets.

Automakers, including U.S. companies, are trembling at the prospect of increased tariffs on imported vehicles, which could range up to 25 percent based on the president's threats.

"If you put that kind of a tariff on a vehicle or an industry, prices are definitely going to go up on average," said Jeff Schuster, senior vice president of forecasting at LMC Automotive, which tracks vehicle manufacturing. "There’s no way around that."

and make auto repair workers very happy. I will be nursing my 2002 Cavalier and 2009 HHR to the very end. I got to think you are facing a fairly elastic demand curve.

My Honda must last forever. I cannot afford a new car, not that I want one after reading this.

To hell with that passing thought!

Obama fixed or implemented something - and 45/140 has to turn right around and f*ck it up.

Someone should tell him that Obama was deliberately doing anything and everything to eliminate the automobile industry in America.

That will get 45/140 to reverse its' approach.

.

There will be no generational or time lapse between presidential actions, it will be a direct comparison contrast between these presidencies. Historians and political scientists and scholars will be able to make direct comparisons between the two.

but drumpf's actions are insanely outrageous. drumpf has said he made out very well in the 2007-2008 financial crash (along with scumbag Wilbur Ross), so hang on to your wallet because it is going to be an extremely rough financial ride ahead.
