Is it impossible to get two or three Republicans to agree with Democrats?

Politicians are usually good at the art of persuasion. But to listen to a lot of Democrats, that is a lost art.

How many times do we hear that they out-number us in the Senate by a 51-49 margin? The huge margin of 51-49! One more vote ties it up and two more votes wins it for the Democrats.

But it may as well be 90-10 to hear some folks talk. They are unable to persuade even one Republican to agree with them. They have given up.

I'm not sure that a little more effort could not be made, rather than surrendering.

Just my opinion.

5. If you are referring to the SCOTUS pick, the game is lost. We don't hold the Senate.

That is a fact. The SCOTUS Pick is going through... need to take the fight to the midterm. There is little we can do without winning power back. We might as well let Manchin ET AL vote for the SCOTUS pick if it helps them win in 18. It would be a disaster if we lose enough Democratic Senators that Trump has a working majority. We can stop Trump's judicial picks by winning the Senate...and perhaps we could consider spending money on taking the House and the Senate instead of primarying sitting Democrats?

I think there is a microscopic (subatomic?) chance that Trump's nominee will be so smelly that some R senators might think about flipping. If D senators have already signalled their willingness to flip, that chance goes to zero.

But yeah, too small a probability to spend time arguing over it.

I have a gay daughter, we are concerned about Lawrence vs Texas...we are looking into sending her to Ireland if the shit hits the fan. Her Dad is first generation so the kids have the right of return. I would do anything to stop this pick if I could figure out anyway to win...but I can't. We are likely to lose Roe as well. It makes me sick. But risking the midterm is foolish. If he wins Democratic Senate seats and we don't win the house, we won't be able to stop him...he will have two years at lest to create his fascist dream world. We do have a chance to take the Senate if we go all in.

They have dual citizenship and were born in the U.S. so getting in is not a problem. I haven't discussed the issue of what they should do, but I could not, in good conscience, tell them things will be OK if they come back.

This isn't a hypothetical for them. People in their family tree died in the Holocaust.

They are the only ones actually susceptible to pressure.
