Dutch Prime Minister Mockingly Corrects Trump In Oval Office

Most foreign leaders have tried to play nice with President Donald Trump in their public meetings, overlooking his flagrant disrespect and rampant breaking of norms in an effort to keep relations with the United States as smooth as possible.

But on Monday, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte showed a glimmer of defiance and derision toward the president even while he maintained a smile.

While meeting in front of press in the Oval Office, Rutte openly contradicted Trump and rightly laughed at his comments as the president discussed trade with the European Union. Trump was opining about his ongoing dispute with European leaders regarding his aggressive stance on trade.

He tried to argue that whether or not his tactics lead to productive agreements with the foreign countries, everything would work out fine.

They are a brave, courageous, intelligent, strong and capable people.

Just don't mess with them.

Donald will now have to face his limitations.

The Dutch have lived on the edge in many, many respects for centuries -- on the edge of a continent, on the edge culturally (Rembrandt, for example), on the edge linguistically (kind of an odd mixture of German, English and yes, even French), on the edge . . . .

And they see right through phonies -- in general.

3. Liked your Dutch cultural comment

Dutch childhood neighbor probably had something to do with my appreciation. As young Dutch man he lived on edge, behind a kitchen panel in Holland for over a year, as WW2 Nazi's looked for 10 Dutchmen to shoot in the village square, - for every Nazi soldier who was killed by the Dutch resistance.
