Conservative talking point I want to debunk:

I saw a lot of this on Twitter today in regards to the Wal-Mart boycott which is conservatives are saying we forced them to boycott Wal-Mart. Where is this nonsense coming from? We didn't force you to boycott anything. You are doing this on your own free will.

We didn't force you to burn your NFL season tickets and merchandise. We didn't force you to destroy your Keurigs. We didn't force you to boycott Starbucks, or Target, or Nordstrom, or any of the hundreds of other things you won't touch since your precious dictator was installed in the White House. You are doing this on YOUR OWN FREE WILL. You can't blame the other side for acts of your own stupidity.

Us? We're just sitting back watching the fire and enjoying seeing you wallow in your own stupidity. Of course by the time you realize the error of your ways, it will be too late. Until then, pass the butter.

i, for one, wish i could be "just sitting back watching the fire and enjoying seeing [them] wallow in [their] own stupidity"
but instead i'm losing sleep, stressing out, alternately furious and mournful, as they drag our once-great nation into the sewer.

They’re all quite busy these days, keeping track and being active. Good way to meet and make friends with people of like mind. And you can be as active or passive as you feel like being.

I’ve been part of two different ones by now. There usually is a good representation of retirees since they’re often the ones with the most time to put in. They also tend to be in the know about transportation options in case of rallies and other protests.

Some mighty nice company to keep. It’ll perk up your spirits because it will prove to you that there are people out there willing and eager to roll up their sleeves and DO SOMETHING about this mess. Even if it seems like a little bitty something.

Also, these are the folks highly motivated to take it to their reps. Meetups with Senators and Congressfolks, and state and local reps too, are commonplace and frequent. Sometimes you can meet the actual rep, but mostly it’s a field office person. But they listen, take notes, and advise on what their bosses are doing - or not doing.

The fellowship and camaraderie are both terrific, and reinvigorating. And you always learn stuff. Plus, many of these folks are plugged in with other activist groups and Democratic clubs that might be worth a little of your time. You’ll often have opportunities to hear from good speakers, experts, and the reps and candidates themselves. In and around LA there are multiple groups and organizations bent on flipping the seven key SoCal districts that look to be winnable. They set up caravans and trips to those districts and do things like voter registrations at local events.

Highly recommended! An excellent way to channel that anger and horror into serious and effective change-making!

Don't conservatives proudly style themselves as the party of personal responsibility? Why they gotta blame someone else for their own stupid actions?
