And this is how we celebrate the holiday in these parts - fireworks! On my way home tonight I spotted a beautiful display way in the distance, figured it was part of the show they put on for the tourists up by the lake. But while I was looking at that, there was a loud series of bangs! right next to me! I almost went off the road! It was the local fireworks show! Now I know why there were all those people sitting in lawn chairs when I'd passed by earlier in the evening!

2. Happy Government Of, By and For The People!

Fireworks over the lake from a friend's houseboat tonight. Lulled to sleep finally reading more of Edward Larson's The Return of George Washington, Uniting the States.

Later today we'll celebrate peacefully with four generations of extended, united families, where the happy noise of children playing in the river will remind me at least of at that we could lose and must protect.
