Senator Richard Shelby to Russian counterpart in Moscow

Last edited Wed Jul 4, 2018, 12:25 PM - Edit history (1)

On the VERY DAY the Senate Intelligence Committee gave it's conclusion that Russia interfered with the 2016 election to help Donald Trump.

“I’m not here today to accuse Russia of this or that or so forth,” Shelby told Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin. “I’m saying that we should all

strive for a better relationship.”

historians will not be kind to us. The west will have been defeated by Russia without their having fired a single shot. Al they had to do was turn us against one another. Not just the US, but the EU as well.

Putin, really is a master I suppose. He's effecting positive change for himself and his oligarchs. I'm sure if I bother to look at how the rest of his people are doing they are not doing as well. The sanctions do have some impacts.

I have to give credit where credit is due. He's certainly played the game well. Far better than the US has.

We are taught by conventional politics to think about progress in terms of small bites of time that coincide with elections... six years...two years...four years. Everything is seen as incremental until we reach the electoral goal. in Russia... they play the long game.
We never play the long game, because the goals change with every candidate.

Republicans are better at the long game. When they loose on...say abortion rights, they never admit defeat. They continue to chip away and look at the long game. Democrats declare victory and walk away... setting new goals. We are more fractious and more diverse, so there are new goals to be set and grievances to be settled. We Move-On they dig in. Just when we most need to be philosophically united we are able to be divided by Russian bots and propaganda.

As long as we don't have a direct vote for our President, we don't don't live in a democracy.

And these members of Congress are from the smaller states (with a couple of exceptions) like Montana, South Dakota, North Dakota, etc. that decide who becomes president.

The electoral college must go. It is now a tool that can be manipulated by today Russia, tomorrow, who knows who.

and liberals have played the long, long game and won on so many issues.

Note that the bozos now in Russia are with only maybe two exceptions, from the smallest (in terms of population) states in America.

They are losers who have too large a say in the electoral college. The rest of the country needs to change that.

I am all for improving our relationships with all countries in the world, but this visit to Russia is very strange and looks really bad for those who are there. On the Fourth of July??????

There is much more to this story than meets the eye?

Do the Russians have the Republicans' e-mails?

Someone asked that on Twitter, and I really wonder. On the Fourth of July??????

Unbelievable that any member of Congress travels outside the US on this day of patriotism, cotton candy, parades and fireworks. Unbelievable.

Have they gone to the dark side?????

What is the motivation.

With what is about to happen to the SCOTUS, we will see that settled law means absolutely nothing to the right. My point is that we have to keep re-litigating settled law because they never accept law as defeat.

On the Fourth of July???? You've got to be kidding me.

This is the most important day of the year for American politicians, this and Labor Day, and these bozos are in Russia?

There is more than meets the eye to this gambit.

Ever suspicious, I remain.

Putin and his hench goons ordered the Acts of War against America. Those Acts of War on America are still happening, and they are ramping up toward the 2018 election.

Free clue for republicans:
this is a bad time to go ass-kissing the people who are making war on the country you are sworn to protect and defend.

Especially odd, given how royally pompous, as are the other Senators, - in the way they usually comport themselves.

Good thing Shelby doesn't have a forelock to pull across his forehead as serfs had to do.

joining together on social causes under the guise of religion.

Same with the David Dukes of the right - joining with Russia - white skin and all that.

That there is confluence is no surprise.

Religion and racism are part and parcel to the GOP.
