Michael Avenatti, the attorney representing Stormy Daniels, said Wednesday that he would run against Donald Trump in 2020 if he doesnt think another candidate can defeat the president.
IF (big) he seeks re-election, I will run, but only if I think that there is no other candidate in the race that has a REAL chance at beating him. We cant relive 2016. I love this country, our values and our people too much to sit by while they are destroyed. #FightClub #Basta, Avenatti tweeted.
Since becoming Daniels attorney, Avenatti has become a persistent critic of Trump and his longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen.
Daniels is suing Cohen to invalidate a hush money agreement over her alleged sexual encounter with Trump in 2006.

(63,769 posts)I personally would like to see DT up against Avenatti in a debate.
But much as I like the guy, we really have to wait and see.

(115,270 posts)He said he'd run only if he thinks there is no other candidate that has a real chance to beat Trump. There will be many such candidates. I hate the way Raw Story misrepresents the stories it references; why not go directly to the source and skip the tendentious headlines and clickbait?

(14,153 posts)I only WISH we lived in some golden age where politicians were cordial and professional and dare I say well read and intellectual. Well one side still is and I can understand them desperately trying to grasp at that one shred of decorum that you thought came with the job. Many are lawyers, and became one with the appreciation of the process of deliberating calmly against a respected peer in a court of law and coming to a logical conclusion that the other lawyer would, even if grumbling, accept.
Sorry but at least in federal US politics, it has become a Reality TV show, where the lies come hard and the lies come often. The producers of this show throw things at you every day and if you don't fight back with the same fervor, you are voted off the island. And if you don't stand out, just lay low and follow the rules, guess what?....you may make it all the way to the last few contestants. But you will be perceived as what is called the 'goat' who rode the coat tails to get where they are. While someone who lied and backstabbed his way is perceived as 'playing the game' and is respected for that so much that he is voted the winner.
We need someone who is as ballsy as Avenatti, but with more experience in Washington as a, or working with, Democrats. Also, he didn't say anything about running as a Democrat. So this should be a shot over the bow to Democrats to get woke. Hate to say it but in todays dirty politics, you have to out troll the trolls. Nancy and Chuck need to step out of the Golden age bubble they live in and get into their Golden parachutes, for the good of the party.

(4,514 posts)Also, I've heard Avenatti say he is a registered Democrat, so I think he would be seeking the Democratic nomination. He's smart enough to know that running third party would ensure a Trump win, so I don't believe he would do that. His aim, one way or another, is to take down Trump.

(29,166 posts)But most know how to hide it better than Avenatti.
I would prefer to have someone that has served in government either as Senator, Representative, or Governor.
That said, if he runs and wins the Democratic primary, I pledge my remaining treasure, time, and my vote to get him elected.

(4,514 posts)Avanetti said, IF (big) he seeks re-election," he would run against him. I think "IF (big)" indicates that he thinks Trump may not be in a position to seek re-election because he will no longer be POTUS. Avenatti believes Trump is going DOWN and has said so many times. He intends to be the instrument of that takedown if at all possible, and has said that repeatedly, too.
And yes, anybody can run. Avenatti has also said he is a registered Democrat. I am sure that if he decided to seek the nomination, he would do so as a Democrat, because that's what he is. I also think he's savvy enough to realize that running third party as a progressive liberal candidate would split the vote and ensure a Trump win, so he would not do that, I think.

Michael Avenatti, the lawyer who rose to prominence representing adult film star Stormy Daniels, attacked President Donald Trump on Independence Day and said for the first time that he absolutely believes he could beat Trump in a potential 2020 presidential matchup.
Avenatti told Newsweek on Wednesday that he yes, absolutely believes he could prevail over Trumpif he decided to run. I think I would be his worst nightmare, Avenatti said.
I think it would be an extremely contentious campaign, no holds barred, and very close, Avenatti said of a hypothetical race between Trump and him running as Democratic Party candidate.

(11,235 posts)Haven't we learned our lesson yet that the Presidency isn't an entry-level government position? Plus, we no nothing about him, other than the fact that he's up against the Trump cabal in a civil suit.
This is madness. There are plenty of good Democrats out there.

(10,237 posts)...we need a nominee who knows how Washington works. As highly as I regard Avenatti, I think that he'd be an essentially gimmick candidate. That's my 2 cents, and quite possibly over priced at that.

Bob Menendez?
Diane Feinstein?
Chuck Schumer?
