Arizona woman, 92, shot, killed son who tried putting her in assisted living

An elderly mother in Arizona allegedly shot and killed her son on Monday after she learned of his plans to put her in a nursing home, officials said.

Anna Blessing, 92, had been thinking about her son's intentions to put her in a home for days, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office stated in a news release. She confronted him on Monday morning with two pistols that she hid in her robe, according to police.

Blessing told police "she removed the handgun and fired multiple rounds striking and killing her son." It was at that point that the elderly woman reportedly pointed the gun at her son's girlfriend and a struggle ensued.

The weapon reportedly "dislodged" from Blessing's hand, before she grabbed a second gun and tried to point it at the girlfriend, who knocked it out of Blessing's hand.

The girlfriend called police and Blessing was taken into custody. She was charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of kidnapping.

She had 8 kids, raised them during the Depression and WW2, stood 5 foot tall in shoes, and all her 6 foot sons, all military veterans, were terrified of her.

She needs to move and won’t, is on second story apt at senior place. Lied to me a bunch of times over the years about getting on list to move first floor.

She has hard time walking but refuses to go. My daughters told me i had to take care of it. After a bad argument with my mom mostly for lying to me she said I am going nowhere till i die.

So i told the kids i am unwillingly nor can I afford to take her to court, heck DMV just gave her another 4 yrs! That drives me nuts to as she is one of those very slow on freeway people.

So i told my daughter who is closer to her than me she can talk to her. I live 6 hours away but luckily have granddaughter that moved to her town and does some errands.

I told my husband she isn’t going to die of old age, it will be falling down stairs.

It took several hours for the police and paramedics to drag her out.

She was cussing and screaming, hitting, kicking, and throwing things.

She was still trying to bite people as they strapped her to the ambulance gurney.

My mom had already taken my grandma's guns and destroyed them.

My grandma was a hoarder, as bad as anything you've seen on television, and we were all later horrified to find another gun in her house.

Thank God my grandma had forgotten where she'd hidden it, or, as I like to think, she didn't want to go out shooting.

"According to statements provided by suspect Blessing and received by the detectives, she had been contemplating for several days her son’s intentions to place her in an assisted living facility. Blessing retrieved two pistols and concealed them in the pockets of her robe then confronted her son in his bedroom. "

He'd have her living in a prison tent and doing hard labor.
