(Snoopy is carrying a tiny US flag and there is a firework exploding in background)... that's about the extent of it for me.

Admittedly, I thought twice about doing even that. I don't consider myself to be UNPatriotic at all, but damned Trump....

Every July 4 it's the concert in the park with fireworks. All-American, rah-rah, lots of patriotic music (this year, bleh). This year we got rained out. Yay I guess. Looking forward to watching 1776 tonight.

But I did go out to the horse rescue barn where I volunteer to take care of some of the 58 equines on our property. Such good medicine and it restores my energy to fight this fascist in the White House another day.

There's nothing like getting lovies from a horse, especially one that has recovered from terrible abuse, starvation, or abandonment.

I love horsies, and hate to think of them being mistreated. Out here in the Nevada wild, the Mustangs are still roaming free, for now. Such wise and wonderful animals

We have 58 horses on the property - everything from ponies to Percherons. When the state of the world and our insane politics get me down, I go out to the barn and do chores, help with bringing the horses back in to the barn for the night, and then I get to groom and pick feet and it's wonderful. The website for our foundation is www.equamore.org. You can read the stories and warm your heart.

The only time people got excited was local bands and huge progressive group with signs of blue wave coming.

A young girl was walking around carrying big sign that said what do you have to celebrate about.

I went because I will be damned if I let that ass steal my flag and country from me!

I read the Declaration of Independence to my daughter, and she reads the The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere to me. Today we couldn't summon up the desire. Instead we read Maya Angelou's These Yet To Be United States silently to ourselves. So yeah.

President Obama is right - this is no time for moping. There is no room for surrender or apathy.

If there is a protest, rouse yourself and go. Work for local campaigns. Find some money and contribute to campaigns and the ACLU.

Write your elected officials - even the Republican ones. Tell them you're watching.

We may go down but, damn it, we will go down fighting.
