and their asshole of a President who is on his way to torpedoing this country so he can give it over to Putin... I can't celebrate this 4th (it is sickening me) of July because by next year, we may not even have one.

(11,855 posts)Huddled in the a/c with Mr. and watched the movie, IT...which seemed fitting.
At it's core, the movie is about not being controlled by fear, and not letting a monster divide you and your friends.

(21,137 posts)The Resemblance and nasty personality is uncanny between the two. My hubby worked and got paid time and half and can take the holiday at later date. I was ok with that.
Keep the faith.

(2,187 posts)They're not a political party anymore, not anymore. They're now all criminals laundering dirty Russian money and going to visit Russia, even tho the entire frickin world is watching! They don't give a shit anymore and just don't care how they're seen anymore. Who wants to vote for them?

(41,831 posts)but I am not very hopeful, with Rigged elections, and Republicans having cheated and sold their souls to gain power in this country, we may not even have the right to vote by Next November.

(41,831 posts)event that has the National Anthem, and that includes my beloved Major League Baseball... I just don't feel like supporting anything this administration has its claws into.. and if we still have the right to vote in November, ... I will vote, despite the fact, all our votes maybe stolen and given over to the other side. I will just hope my vote goes to the right place.

(11,097 posts)President Obama is right - this is no time for moping. There is no room for surrender or apathy.
If there is a protest, rouse yourself and go. Work for local campaigns. Find some money and contribute to campaigns and the ACLU.
Write your elected officials - even the Republican ones. Tell them you're watching.
We may go down but, damn it, we will go down fighting.

(51,550 posts)I am in an area of Orange County, CA, where all fireworks are illegal, even the "safe and sane" kind. But these assholes are firing off Roman candles and cherry bombs enough to actually shake my house. This is the first time they have ever done this and it's three of the houses on my block this year that are doing this. All I can figure is that these right wing assholes think that not only is their president above the law, but so are they.
Car alarms are going off everywhere and the poor neighborhood dogs are barking in terror.
Worst 4th ever.

(100,067 posts)At least in my neighborhood they're smart enough to abide by the ban. But yeah obnoxious idiots with fireworks that would otherwise be illegal is something to be concerned about. Although sometimes in those cases, all you can do is root for the fireworks.

(100,067 posts)It's because of morons with illegal fireworks and morons with guns. Not a good combination.

(81,220 posts)A few of those bottle rockets and Roman candles can set a roof on fire! Yikes! Stay safe.

(81,220 posts)It was MOST invigorating! A candidate for state office spoke and two other representatives from a Congressional hopeful spoke also. Took questions. Roamed around talking to people. I signed up to volunteer and brought home a bunch of literature. The woman seated two seats away from me repeatedly referred to when trump stole the election. Nobody needed convincing. It was great, and the food was fabulous - everybody brought something.
Very satisfying evening. About 30 (?) people there. Some had been to the Families Belong Together event last weekend. People were writing checks and filling out sign-up sheets. A real tonic - just when I needed one. Everybody talked about what a bad week last week was. Lots of discussion about upcoming local/regional elections. SHEESH I have SO much to learn...

(81,220 posts)Its the best medicine I can prescribe or recommend for what ails this country!!!
DO IT!!! Yes, Im SHOUTING!!!
trump n comp got you down? Make your stomach churn acid? Give you headaches? And/or nightmares? Feeling a sense of helplessness or futilty?
Go to google and find Indivisible near me! (Or Indivisible groups near me!) When we were moving, I looked up where we were headed and found these folks on Facebook.
Youre apt to find more than you even need. Youll figure out who serves you based on your county and your Congressional district. Some of the people youll meet will have been involved since the Womens March and subsequent Huddles.
Youll also find:
- People who are experts at local activism.
- People with really credible expertise in many areas of urgent needs, subjects, issues, and crises.
- People who are otherwise connected - also members of other Democratic and Democratic Party groups, climate crisis groups like the Citizens Climate Lobby, gun violence groups like Moms Demand Action, advocates for the poor, unions, teachers, schools, womens issues, healthcare issues, peace advocates, immigration activists, and even some liberal-leaning church-related groups.
- People who are connected to actual office-holders and candidates for same.
If youre moving into a new state or area, THIS is the way to find new friends. Youre already on the same page, sharing the same world view, and you already have a lot in common. We moved in January. Were already folded in on the social circuit here - meeting people who are working on this shit, doing everything they can to thwart, defy, obstruct, challenge, complicate, mess up, or flat out undo the damage this monster in OUR White House has been doing.
Like last nights dinner before fireworks was. We had two volunteers with the campaign to flip a local district from red to blue, and a woman whos running for a State Senate seat. They stayed for the whole thing, not just dinner but the hanging out and schmoozing part too. There was even a table set up (near the drinks!) with literature, campaign statements and backgrounders, business cards, reference sheets in local/regional bills and ballot measures, sign-up sheets for volunteering and for being added to more-info lists, and donation envelopes.
AND there were people involved in other stuff outside politics. Like the art show coming up next month in a neighboring community that I didnt know about til last night, and now want to attend. I met a woman who was also a mosaic artist who showed me photos of her work. Now, I cant wait to see them up close and talk shop with her on that subject also.
The Indivisible movement is OUTSTANDING!! And it pays many many dividends, some of them totally unexpected. DO it. Run, dont walk!
HIGHLY Recommended!

(51,550 posts)We're working to unseat our scumbag congressman, Dana Rohrabacher. I have canvassed for Harley Rouda, his Democratic challenger on the November ballot.
But I still get bummed out being surrounded by right wing neighbors. At least it's quiet today. They're probably all hung over and missing a couple fingers.

(81,220 posts)As we have. We're now part of Indivisible Clackamas, in Oregon's Clackamas County. I'm still just starting to learn about the political lay of the land. Including my new "representative" who is more or less a DINO, NOTHING like my former rep, Ted Lieu. But having Ted Lieu as your Congressman does lead you to feeling rather spoiled. Hard to improve on him. Especially when one is stuck with Kurt Schrader now. Mongo NOT impressed. But at least he's a D. I guess it's better than having a flat-out R.
And there are propositions and other measures to learn about. Back in West L.A., for example, I never had to know much about some local farm bill, 'cause there weren't any. Where we are now, it's an issue.

(12,583 posts)As much as I admire the military (I was in the Air Force Reserve) I hate seeing it used as a prop to feed Shitler's ego. He'll probably invite Putin and his new BFF Kim Yung Un to bear witness to his greatness. He's sure not going to have any of the G7 or NATO folks standing on the reviewing stand with him.
Then, having diminished our country once more in the eyes of the world, he will, if not impeached or otherwise thrown out of office, demand an even bigger parade next year. Believe me!
