(6,344 posts)This happens every year!
They are using huge explosive ones like you would see at a City firework show.
We don't like it!

(7,808 posts)We haven't had rain in months and it has been hot as hell. Yeah, a little concern but I hope for the best.

(21,646 posts)little but that's not stopping the sky from lighting up in all directions with show grade fireworks
and I can see the big park a ways down the street looks like a fireworks factory started on fire . All different kind going off at once from that block . Oh someone just let off a long string or block of crackers very near
I like it and today my family is out of town so all the excitement is a good end of the holiday night I have to bring to a close early
It's only once a year so it's ok

(5,810 posts)Major fireworks displays by Sertoma and other organizations are held every year in numerous places in the metropolitan area. No one should have to drive too far to see a legal display and some are spectacular...if that is your thing.
But just a few miles to our west (30 or less) is a place across the state line that sells copious amounts of fireworks for people to bring back across the state line. The legal ones in our state are pretty much limited to sparklers and maybe firecrackers?? The fireworks stand across the state line sells anything and everything. Enough for quite the show if you have the money.
No one is ever charged for illegal fireworks in my town although the local news channel always reminds people about the law. (I suppose if you caused major damage or started a fire, they would enforce the law.) And some of the booms and loud noises will go on until 1 or 2 a.m. (especially on New Years Eve). I hope since tomorrow will be a work day, maybe they will run out of their stash or will have to pack it in so they can go to work tomorrow. Some of us need our beauty sleep.

(9,977 posts)Bring popcorn, blankets, and a few cool ones, if this is a once yearly apocalypse. If they're still dropping shrapnel next Hump Day, time to call the fire marshall...
My friend the Deputy Fire Chief told me about a possible lunatic fringe solution - his little town is "underfunded", buy they somehow found. a fireworks club willing to put on their yearly fireworks show, if they could have a competion and "test day" with the volunteer firemen keeping the public safe and selling hot dogs.

(11,949 posts)We just had a thunderstorm drop over an inch of rain. As we have had for 4 of the last 7 days.
Central Florida. If we had a fire risk then I would be outraged. And when we have been in drought they have been absent and I missed them.
Right after the convention ratified the constitution Adams wrote that the day will be celebrated with parades, cannons, etc. And he was correct.

(60,010 posts)Glad my poor dog does not have to suffer this year. One of my cats is glued to my ankles as I sit at the puter, he is not at all happy. The other one went to bed with Mr. Dixie.
Not only do we have a lot of banging and popping and a few loud explosions, some idiot is riding his motorcycle thru the neighborhood as loudly as he can.
It's 11:45. Obviously some people do not have to get up at 6am.
So I will go to bed, put the earplugs in and turn the window A/C unit up..that will muffle most of the noise. Last year there were fireworks going off until 2 am!
This would be the one day it has not rained heavily.

(5,522 posts)We're here in rural NY. The neighbors invited us over to watch them set off a pickup load of fireworks. Pretty impressive for about an hour when suddenly the back of the truck lit up. Apparently they accidentally set off
all that was left. Almost half the total. It lasted about 20 minutes. Looked like the ground finale that usually ends a professional display. Anyway when the smoke finally cleared we checked out the truck and there was actually no damage. They all laughed like crazy and finished off the beer. It could have been a disaster of course. Many years I found burnt out sky rockets on our roof or yard. Once in our firewood. Kids are all grown now so it's been quiet.
