Forget "civility": Take Donald Trump's threats of violence seriously, before it's too late

History has a lesson: Courtesy and “civility” are no way to oppose creeping authoritarianism. They only enable it
CHAUNCEY DEVEGA JULY 3, 2018 3:30PM (UTC)

Last weekend, on the Fox News program "Sunday Morning Futures," President Donald Trump struck a new note in his constant authoritarian posturing. He vowed that his supporters would retaliate against Democrats and any others who dare to disagree with him. Given the increase in right-wing political violence in the United States since Trump began his presidential campaign three years ago, this is not an idle threat. This is what the president told the Fox News audience:

You know, there’s probably never been a base in the history of politics in this country like my base. I hope the other side realizes that they better just take it easy. They better just take it easy because some of the language used, some of the words used, even some of the radical ideas, I really think they are very bad for the country. I think they're actually very dangerous for the country.

This is only the most recent example of Trump's violent inclinations. We could list all the threats he has made against immigrants, protesters, political opponents and members of the press. Last week, Trump appeared to threaten Rep. Maxine Waters, a long-serving Democrat from California, attacking her on Twitter:

Congresswoman Maxine Waters, an extraordinarily low IQ person, has become, together with Nancy Pelosi, the Face of the Democrat Party. She has just called for harm to supporters, of which there are many, of the Make America Great Again movement. Be careful what you wish for Max!

Trump found an audience: After receiving specific threats of harm -- including references to lynching -- Waters canceled several public appearances.

Rather than appealing to mankind's higher nature for compassion, understanding, inclusion and peace, he has stroke the worst aspects. He has totally abandon the policies of past presidents that called for unity as the hall mark of our nation as the path to address needs. He is without a shred of doubt dedicated to exploiting the needs of those that have been left behind just as the fascists did during the the 1930's. In stead of calm, he encourages the most divisive of the radical extremists who have branded liberalism, the very foundation of our constitution, as un-American, immoral. I am convinced that he would welcome a civil war with the hope that he would emerge as the supreme leader of an authoritarian presidency.

He said that he was never able to bury the images of the atrocities that helpless human beings subjected to. The Nazi's dehumanized the Jews to such an extent that they were regarded as little more than beasts that should be rightfully exterminated. Is this we are headed? Do we have yet another madman at the controls?

Today, of course, Dachau is clean, and even serene. But the camps has been well preserved as a memorial and warning. And most devastating to me, the crematory ovens are still there, complete with the iron rings set into the rafters where condemned detainees where hanged, right in front of the ovens.

I was a blubbering mess. And it seems like we are not that far from this now. The reconstructed barracks immediately brought to mind the images of children in cages.

Yes at a frightening pace and yes, Trump has used Hitler's playbook to perfection so far.

See this: Big lie

Usage in Hitler's psychological profile

The phrase was also used in a report prepared during the war by the United States Office of Strategic Services in describing Hitler's psychological profile:

His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it.

Tell me that excerpt is not Trump's SOP 100%!

The corporate media, not talking about fake news and hate radio who are more inclined to worship shithole, but the ones, i.e. CNN, MSNBC, etc. who for the most part ignores the threats as a isolated incidents, such as the murdered 5 journalist in which t-rump's hands are all over what happened to them "the media is the enemy". Or t-rump's speeches which has "white nationalist" all over it.

Divide and conquer at any means necessary.

I think corporate media/MSM are absolutely killing freedom and democracy in this country by letting Orange Hitler get away with his crimes and daily outrages that they would have murdered President Obama or a President HRC over.

Of course the state propaganda organs, Fox "news" and hate radio will back every evil thing Dotard does including kidnapping babies at the borders and locking them up in dog cages, but where is the bloody outrage in the MSM over this and a hundred other crimes this lawless president, his family and administration have committed??

***crickets*** is all I get from them as Dear Leader takes down America and the liberal western alliance in service of a fascist foreign dictator who regularly murders his opponents in the press. Bone Spurs feels the same way about them, obviously.

You would think the press would be interested in their own safety if nothing else but so far, I don't see it.

They seem to be bending over backwards to air voices critical to Trump and his policies, and then, "on the other hand..."

The interview with Robert Menendez this morning on Trump's summit with Kim Jong Un was a prime example. Menendez was pointing out that Trump got pwned by KJU, while getting nothing in return. The interviewer comes back with R talking points.

I can imagine in a few years a similar interview criticizing US concentration camps, and hearing from NPR, "On the other hand, they're getting free tattoos aren't they?"

Too often they are just providing a forum for right wing BS. They need to learn from Rachel who reports what is actually being done rather than what they are saying. The right wing cabal is a propaganda machine. Lying liars as an observant person once pointed out.

This post changes how I view that. I felt the need to go out and buy a gun today. Only the understanding that guns NEVER SOLVE PROBLEMS keeps me from doing that. If this is suppose to be a joke, NEWSFLASH: IT IS NOT A JOKE. IT IS A THREAT AGAINST PEOPLE'S LIVES.

And related... Trump has said he loves to fight, about anything. Clearly, if there is nothing to fight about, he creates something. And people who are psychologically compelled to fight as he is have developed a "mean streak". Add to this his desire to be some sort of godfather dictator, and we have someone who needs to be locked up.

It shouldn't be "us versus them" when it comes to presidential responsibilities. Color me surprised though that tRump and his minions take it like a competition.
