WWI "God bless America : French schools welcome Americans"

First World War Centenary Partnership Program is a public interest group established in 2012 by the Government for the preparation and implementation of the commemorative program for the First World War centenary.

http://www.centenaire.org/en/la-mission/centenary-partnership-program

The program has three main aims :

- To organise, between 2014 and 2018, the highlights of the commemorative program for WWI

- To coordinate and support all the initiatives put in place in France or by France abroad

- To provide information about the First World War

Many sections are dedicated to America and American soldiers.

Among others, a gallery of drawings made by children during the war. During WWI, on teacher Hutpin's initiative, elementary school pupils drawn their own vision of the events. A collection of drawings is named “God bless America : French schools welcome Americans”

Pupils captioned each drawing :

General Pershing - American troopers parade in Tuileries Garden

The American and the French flags will fly next, our hands and our hearts will be in unison

Above : Americans are rescuing us.

Below : Children imitate them in rescuing children who lost their fathers in the war.

Left :the Galette Mill used by Americans for camouflage operations.
Right : the same mill during the Siege of Paris 1870–1871 which led to the Bloody Week, the final offensive of Paris Commune

There is more pics on the website. They are truly amazing, considering pupils' age.

The whole website is interesting. It is rich in WWI information and documents, and is very pedagogic.
