I sincerely hope that Chuck Schumer has a grand plan & isn't this naive.

I know it's against TOS to criticize Democratic public figures, and I'm really not trying to do that. Seriously, I'm just baffled as to what his strategy is and what he hoped to gain by doing that.

Chuck Schumer called Donald Trump to urge him to appoint Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court as a way to unite the country. When are the leaders of the Democratic party going to wake up? Trump and the GOP are not trying to unite the country. They are trying to take it over.

Schumer knows Trump well, so I'd like to think there was something strategic about this, but I am certainly not seeing it.

If Trump actually did it, it's a win. If he doesn't, Schumer establishes that Trump isn't interested in uniting the country. Basically Schumer is getting out ahead of this one.

I see a lot of breast rending and gnashing of teeth here over this and I wonder "why?"

Of course it's not going to work. But what do you have to lose... it's like buying a lotto ticket. Sure its money down the drain... but if DJT has a brain fart and agrees to it... repuke heads everywhere would explode.

I like Chuck, but I'm hoping he sees he's not they leader for 2019. The best thing he can do right now is step back and let the newer generation take the spotlight. Trump will go as far right as he can. All we can do is filibuster until January. That's what they do. Time to play by their rules.

Is as mistaken as your request that we Filibuster till January.

We cannot filibusters the Supreme Court. All they need is a simple majority. They have a simple majority.

There is nothing in creation Schumer can do to stop them.

If Trump said yes, we'd have Merrick Garland.

If he said no, we'd be no worse off. And Schumer would have reminded everyone that the seat was stolen.

a serious subject for debate leading into the midterms. By attempting to appeal to Trump's "better angels," Senator Schumer just poked the dumbass deplorable with a sharp "why can't we all just get along?" stick.

You can't negotiate with terrorists. You have to fight and beat them.

But we still have a segment of leadership that believes the base will make do with grandstanding and talk of "uniting the country."

Who wants to be united with a bunch of misogynistic, child-terrorizing racists?
