The Dominican Republic. They used to convey citizenship to everyone who was born there. They changed it to anyone who was born there whose parents were there legally. Then they backdated that to 1929. So if your grandparents came illegally, you are illegal too. Now they are rounding up and expelling all the Haitians.

It requires the DOJ to commence removal proceedings and requires, in most cases, that the government show evidence of a serious wrongdoing on the part of the citizenship applicant (generally some kind of fraud) to justify the stripping away of status. There could be several areas that the DOJ can look at; the citizenship application process itself, and/or the prior permanent resident application process that underlies the basis for applying for citizenship. The investigations would be very involved and may be hampered by, among other things, age and/or availability of documents, (un)availability of witnesses, etc.

So my sense is that this seems to be red meat for tRump's base and intimidation tactics against immigrant communities.

let's go back over all the Ellis Island records etc, you'll see that many if not most European immigrants came here with imperfect and sometimes fraudulent paperwork, fabricated identities etc.

... not to mention that the New World was outright stolen from the Native Americans.
