(41,757 posts)They were not going to vote for HRC - tribalism trumps common sense.
They were the ones that told me that Pruitt had resigned - I had no idea.
One leaned over and said gleefully to the other - "Pruitt resigned!"
I said "Whaaaa!!??"
There is a reason that we cannot eat the fish we caught tonight on regular basis - mercury contamination.
From coal-fired power plants.
We ALL know this.
And we ALL know that global warming is real - we all have seen this growing up and growing old in Maine (we're life-long skiing buddies).
That, and Pruitt's famous penchant to spend "their" tax money on fountain pens, first-class tickets, etc.
This offended the "fiscal responsibility" side of their brains - lol.
They are both retiring - and heavily invested in "Trump's Great Stock Market" - which will tank as he result of Trump's stupid trade war. I kept my mouth shut - they will have to deal with this when it happens.
I have known them for decades and we have civil low-key conversations about Maine politics - and they know I'm a liberal Democrat.
But sometimes it's all I can do from -
Finally, we're having blackened panko-crusted Maine white perch and Asian coleslaw tacos Sat. Nite.
Yum!
Thanks for the reminder: Margaret Chase Smith, Bill Cohen, George Mitchell and Ed Muskie territory.

(2,795 posts)I bet if Laura Ingram and Rush, etc stayed loyal and covered for Pruitt, your Trump loving friends wouldn't have a problem with him. I think there are some that know the liability to their supreme leader leaving Pruitt in place and so they turned on him. I would hazard a guess your friends' opinions are no more than what they've been told to think.

(2,795 posts)Maybe if you can keep correcting them without pissing them off, they might be able to see the truth. Hopefully.

I agreed.
He shut up after that and we got down to fishing.
