Bill Clinton said in a speech about John Kerry in 2004:
"Republicans need a divided America, Democrats don't"
It might be good to remember that as we approach the November 2018 election, because it sure appears to me that there are forces at work to create dissension among Democrats with hyperbole aimed at furthering that goal.
" most Americans aren't that far to the right", they "have to portray us Democrats as simply unacceptable, lacking in strength and values. In other words, they need a divided America. But we don't."

(15,751 posts)Witness the followup everywhere to trump's trumpeting the 'ABOLISH ICE' DEMOCRATS. This is followed up by the 'card carrying SOCIALIST from NY, kind of repeats.
trump is clear about ABOLISH. Dems can't agree on 'replace' even. Then the Abolish Dems who want to excite the Blue Wave, are amplified by, the rw media machines and chorus. That seemed to be the clear report out of Montana last night.
