In such circumstances, of course, nobody knows whos in charge or what the policy is. Staffers come in every day not knowing if theyor their bosses, for that mattermight lose their jobs by the end of the day. Everyone is looking for a way out. Gallows humor seems to rule the day, and aides from the top down are utterly consumed by their own fate and that of those around them. In that sense, Trump may well have created a West Wing in his own image, one more self-absorbed and beset by gnawing doubts than perhaps any that came before it.

(30,613 posts)Turd is devoted to the destruction of America and Western civilization. But he's incredibly incompetent; that may in the end be what saves us.

(32,356 posts)Remember the Peter Principle? "Every person rises to their level of incompetence." In organizational behavior a manager keeps getting promoted as long as he's effective; once he stops being effective he gets no more promotions and stays at that level. (Of course I'm referring to women as well as men.)
But Trump never had to prove himself to anyone. He's repeatedly failed and mismanaged almost everything he's ever done. His only "successes" were due to the efforts of other people, mostly toadies who allowed Trump to take credit for their work. So now this completely failed fuckup has risen to the highest organizational position in our country, and he has power over all our laws and government. It's frightening for those of us who care, and we must resist this take-over disaster. There will never be any boss to tell Cheeto, "You fucked up, you're fired!"
So WE THE PEOPLE have to be the ones to do it.

(5,106 posts)The main thing resulting was that a lot of managers, etc., are out there, performing at exactly their level of INCOMPETENCE. As is frequently pointed out, Trump never had to answer to a board of directors,or, really anyone. His much self-touted business experience is far from what the usual manager develops as he progresses---whether or not he comes up against the "Peter Principle."

(10,084 posts)Let's skip the modern times stuff, the "Not Normal" and "unprecedented" garbage. His cult followers like that language and consider what he is doing be a positive "shakeup" of the status quo. They ignore the damage because they think he is sticking his thumb in the eye of the "establishment," never realizing that he is more establishment and corrupt than any before or after.
We need to say it loudly and clearly, *45 is a horrible leader, incompetent buffoon, the shittiest of human beings, and not deserving of shining the shoes of the men and women who actually serve this country or it's people. He is a lifelong criminal and nothing more than a reality TV show character.

(80,699 posts)And how massively they depend on that establishment.
For keeping prices down, for keeping the air they breathe relatively clean and the water they drink fit to ingest. For making sure their food and medicines are affordable. For making sure they have at least SOME access to affordable health care. For keeping the peace and our international relationships intact so we dont explode into a shooting war that THEIR kids will be sent to fight - with fewer allies remaining to help shoulder that burden. We wont have any allies left if this bastard isnt stopped.

(2,412 posts)Maybe its time for some Democratic Party policy makers to form a government in exile. I want to see more news about our platform and what we are offering in November. What would an alternative cabinet look like? This would be one way to grab some media attention away from the orange god.

(14,483 posts)such as they have in the UK. One advantage of that is it gives an "official" voice and spokesperson to an opposition side of the isle for each major subject of governance.
I agree it would give us better media coverage on specific topics - much better than just grabbing a random congressperson in a hallway for an off-the-cuff interview.

(25,750 posts)There have been recent threads here calling for strict term limits for judges or members of Congress, institutional memory be damned. Among the reasons the loss of long term employees at places like the EPA or the CDC is that pretty soon no one will be around to understand how things really work there, or what happened even several years ago, let alone several decades ago.
What Trump is accomplishing with all this chaos is not so much what he wants to accomplish, but by doing the only thing he knows how to do: create chaos. And let others clean up the mess.

(80,699 posts)All those geniuses who just wanted to burn it all down with their vote for trump didnt think it through. They didnt bother considering the consequences of burning it all down.
If you burn it all down, youll be stuck trying to live in the ashes.

(46,804 posts)I can understand why some people call for term limits, but they underestimate the value of experience and "institutional memory". Elections were meant to weed out the corrupt and ineffective politicians. Getting money out of politics would be a better solution than term limits.
Another example of the disastrous effect of losing experienced people is the State Department, which is weakened every time a career employee leaves or is fired. FEMA, the FBI, and the CIA also rely heavily on experience that comes from years of service. Rebuilding all these institutions after Trump will be an overwhelming task.

(14,483 posts)then it does not matter if it's chaotic. Just look at what Pruitt has done to the EPA, then look at the Repug Congress. Chaos is part of the game.
This method is right out of Russia's playbook of using chaotic theatrics to create a fog of confusion, lies and deception so that our public gives up on finding truth and rational discourse. Once they've reached that goal, it's easy to glue a sector of our public to media outlets such as Faux News and flim-flam men such as tRump, and convincing them they are the only source of truth.
We can bet there's no chaos in the halls of the real minders of our government: ALEC, Heritage Foundation, News Corp., American Enterprise Inst., Chamber of Commerce, et al.
