A tale of the boy who cried "Republican."

He cried it in the Watergate era. But Nixon ended up walking along the beach in his wingtips until he died.

He cried it during the Iran/Contra crime. But culprits were declared "patriots," and it turned out that Ronald Reagan really was clueless.

He cried it when George H. W. Bush ran the racist "Willy Horton ad" during his presidential campaign. Few people gave a shit.

He cried it when Newt Gingrich was busy demolishing civility in American government.

He cried it when Cheney/Bush lied us into two wars that are still going on and have expanded.

He cried it when an orange madman ran for president.

And he's now crying that we're on a fast lane to hell.

Unlike the boy who cried "wolf," the boy who cried "Republican" was right every time.

And here we are.

but a 3 member 'blue ribbon' group, the Tower Commission, after declaring that the President seems unable to remember much about the issue in their report. They then seem to have decided that given Reagan's popularity and passive, almost non-governing role, it would be best to quietly let him very quietly finish out his term - and minimize political discomfort. Retired, he was soon visited by G.H. Bush, who let it slip that President Reagan could not be seen in public - and he wasn't . . . ever again.

And they learned their lesson. That lesson being, nobody on the Conservative side will hold you accountable for anything as long as you keep saying "freedom" and "family values"

I always thought that GHW got away with that one too. He was the former head of the CIA. He knew what was going on.
