An internal poll from Ron DeSantis gubernatorial campaign shows the candidate with a 19-point lead over Adam Putnam.
The new poll backs up findings of a shock poll released Friday that also showed the Deland congressman with a double-digit lead over the state agriculture commissioner in the Republican primary. If true, the data shows a marked shift in voter preference.
Why the sudden DeSantis surge? Internal data shared with Florida Politics by the DeSantis camp shows major impact from the endorsement of President Donald Trump.
Polling firm 1892 surveyed 800 respondents on July 2.
The poll found 47 percent of respondents would vote for DeSantis if the election were held today, while just 28 percent would support Putnam. Another 25 percent said they were undecided. No other candidates were included in the poll.
But when pollsters asked if respondents were more supporters of Trump or the Republican Party in general, 68 percent called themselves Trump voters while just 23 percent identified primarily with the GOP. Another 9 percent supported both equally, with the remaining 1 percent unsure.

(31,261 posts)I really don't like the look of the stuff that forms on one of the stainless steel liners of my sinks every two days. I am always cleaning it away, no way that I drink that stuff.
I expect Graham to win the democratic primary for Governor, I will vote for one of her challengers in the primary, but will be fully behind her after that. All in all, we have an impressive field of democrats.
Actually, I am glad to see Putnam blowing up. He does not have as many skeletons that can be exploited as DeSantis.

(31,261 posts)I will vote for the former Miami Beach Mayor in the primary, but I expect Graham to win it. Once she wins, I am behind her 100%.
My sense is Putnam would be tougher to beat than DeSantis, so extreme republicans blowing up their race is good for us. I hope that we can trim off maybe 2-4% of disaffected republicans in November. Democrats are being quiet, but we are locked, I can see that everywhere.

(31,261 posts)I plan to vote for Levine, I like his message and he is working hard for it. I think that either him or Graham would be formidable in November.

(10,499 posts)to build the Tampa Bay Rays a new stadium.
I am not sure how much they can draw by moving to Tampa. It is definitely a better location for the team than St. Petersburg. And a new stadium that isn't Tropicana Field will definitely help. Finally, the Tampa Bay Lightening does get good attendance.
On the other hand, I have heard it suggested that maybe Tampa Bay gets its fill during Spring training. And the Marlins, playing in a much bigger metro area, is having attendance struggles. They didn't draw that well in their opening season at the new park, even though their franchise has two World Series championships.
They could wind up moving to Charlotte or Montreal if they don't get a new stadium. But it seems like a lot of cities and states are finally reaching the point where they are ready to stop shelling out the money to built them for their sports teams.

(63 posts)Trump voters are identifying themselves with Trump instead of the Republican party. We've been making that connection for a while. Conservatives stopped having values or an ideology a long time ago. That's why the Russia probe doesn't matter to them. It's not just Trump's party, it's THE Trump Party.

(13,615 posts)Adam Putnam, for all his love affair with the NRA, is well known for bring someone who at least tries to be ethical. He went to bat for his constituents getting disability benefits when all the local GOP cranks were calling him weak and a few not very nice words (that would offend the LGBT very much.) He will make a hard bad guy to show, where desantis is selling himself as trummp's handpicked governor, one that will gladly open up florida to Louisiana style oil rigs.
