https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_UndergroundThe largest section is 'Criticsim'. which of course is typical wiki BS. It obviously was edited by rightwingers.

(16,672 posts)I'm sure they're true but obviously if everything said is negative it's not hard to determine who would do it.

They drove up the "likes" also.
This is nowhere more evident than seeing the scant crowd at Trump's inaguration.
The online 'likes' weren't real people.

(5,487 posts)The paragraph about a poster hoping for more bloodshed in Iraq either needs to be expanded upon or removed, imo. I see nothing wrong with talking about (relatively impartial) criticism against DU in the news, though, as thats just reporting what happened at the time. Theres nothing wrong with those statements if theyre true.
Its a problem when people try to turn Wikipedia into their own political instrument, though, which the site needs to defend itself against every day. For example, the part about a poster wishing for more bloodshed in Iraq as every site has trolls. If this posters post was widely reported in the news, then it becomes acceptable.
Wikipedia has the same impartiality issues that every other written media has. How much bias is ok? Who says what is biased, and what is not? If something is being deleted, is it being deleted for a legitimate reason, or does the deleter have an agenda?
I would say ty criticism section is ok, but needs work. Who wanted more bloodshed in Iraq, and why is this fact relevant? A one-off troll post is not a controversy. Something the admins needed to publicly address is noteworthy.
Remember - Wikipedia is not there to make DU look good. Its supposed to be a neutral, scholarly article about DU. Wikipedia succeeds at this sometimes, and sometimes it misses the mark.

(18,190 posts)Their virulently bigoted membership routinely engage in a form of unchecked populism that is highly discriminatory to various ethnic groups (including Slavs). In fact, they will likely erroneously label this a "hack" and subsequently blame "the Russians" or as their foaming at the mouth fringe will say: "the Kremlin" or "the Soviets" in typical hubris laced hysterics.

(28,921 posts)Was that really that big a deal? Probably just a handful of posters out of tens of thousands at DU. The thing is ANY online discussion forum is going to have plenty of nutty stuff from .00001 % of the posters. Not sure why that was even covered on Wikipedia?

(16,672 posts)I've seen some crazy stuff here over the years and it gets shot down accordingly.. But you'd' think that's all that goes on DU. It's such a sign of the insanity we are living through.

(38,304 posts)But they do well covering subjects beyond the grasp of a typical Trump voter.
If you want to know about subjects like Diesel engines, Clocks, or Calculus, then Wikipedia is fairly no-nonsense.

Otherwise it's too often a playground for a protected class of white libertarian men of limited life experience, inhabitants of the proverbial "Mom's Basement," be it actual biological Mom, or whatever tech corp they currently toil for.
