In an announcement in Thai to the Thai nation he announced that there had been significant success in reducing the level of the water but significant monsoon activity was coming to Thailand next week and they needed to move now, bringing out two teens at a time. The area has been cordoned off and the media moved back so that the families can be at the base of the cave without worrying about the media.

The reason for moving the Thai soccer team now is two fold:
1) the amount of CO2 is increasing at "Pattaya Beach" and there is a significant drop in Oxygen levels, partly due to increased rescue attempts.
2) They have reduced the level of the water so that only a small part of the 6 km is under water. They have gotten a break in the monsoons but if they wait the team could be trapped in there for 3 months. Monsoon activity in the area is very high.
In his announcement he said that they will begin extraction at 9 PM. It was noon when he made the announcement about 42 miles

(33,643 posts)Can't wait to hear some good news!
So critical the first boy makes it out and shows that the operation can work. NOTHING would be more horrifying than losing the first one, God forbid. Be SO hard to know 'what to do next' if that were to happen.
And would you tell the remaining boys ... if anyone doesn't make it? I'm thinking as long as 1 or 2 make it out, you press forward no matter what, and don't tell the boys left inside that someone didn't make it, but ... I dunno ...
Jeez this is nerve-wracking ...

(30,724 posts)I grew up hating my name. I don't feel that way any more. The name has been passed down through several generations of my family.
