A resolution to encourage breast-feeding was expected to be approved quickly and easily by the hundreds of government delegates who gathered this spring in Geneva for the United Nations-affiliated World Health Assembly, the New York Times reports.
Based on decades of research, the resolution says that mothers milk is healthiest for children and countries should strive to limit the inaccurate or misleading marketing of breast milk substitutes.
Then the United States delegation, embracing the interests of infant formula manufacturers, upended the deliberations.

(53,410 posts)Remember the story of the woman lawyer who was taking a Trump deposition who said she needed a break to go pump breast milk for her baby in privacy? He was quite public in his disgust.
For those who dont know much about breastfeeding heres a little lesson. Babies are fed on a schedule of every 3 or 4 hours. The human body adjusts to this schedule and gives its own notice when time is up. Breasts start leaking milk right on cue. You can set your watch by it, so naturally working mothers schedule breaks around this fact of life to pump her babys milk to be given when she and her baby are reunited after work. If she doesnt do this her body will stop producing milk.
