Giuliani Reveals Trump Did Ask Comey to Give Flynn 'A Break', Despite President's Prior Denials

In an interview with George Stephanopoulos on This Week, Rudy Giuliani said that President Donald Trump did actually suggest to FBI Director James Comey that he go easy on Michael Flynn, despite Trump’s prior denials.

The apparent reveal was first noted by Politico’s Josh Gerstein on Twitter.

The wording is important in the transcript above.

The New York Times asked Trump, “Did you at any time urge former FBI Director James Comey in any way, shape, or form to close or to back down the investigation into Michael Flynn?”

Urge. Did you urge in any way to back down, the Times asked.

“No. No. Next question,” said Trump.

But in the interview on ABC this morning, Giuliani said that Trump did not “direct” Comey to take it easy, but then says that Trump did ask Comey during the investigation of Flynn to “give him a break.”
