Some tidbits here mostly about hospitality and the show but interesting

It was the start of a confused visit of less than 30 hours, marked by a pair of lavish banquets that the secretary and his staff appeared to dread for their length and the daunting number of courses presented by unfailingly polite waiters. He only learned of his own schedule hours ahead of time, and the meeting with Kim Jong Un never happened -- despite strenuous efforts from his staff.
Still, the reminders were there. Guests could roam the grounds and walk a path that surrounded a lake, but were blocked from approaching workers erecting a building nearby. Guards watched surreptitiously from behind a stand of trees.
The lack of U.S. control clearly rankled Pompeo. A former military officer accustomed to short, focused meetings, he was made to sit through multi-course meals with Kim and his staff, as waiters brought plate after plate of food -- foie gras, turkey, pea soup, boiled oak mushrooms, kimchi, watermelon and ice cream, plus a drink branded American Cola.
By the morning of his second day, Pompeo had enough. Instead of the elaborate breakfast prepared for him, he ate toast and slices of processed cheese.
Days before the trip began, reporters traveling with Pompeo had to rush to get new passports with a special endorsement allowing entry to North Korea. In the end, authorities in Pyongyang never stamped them and the documents were returned unblemished. It was as if the secretary had never visited at all.

(33,643 posts)KJU's regime are so well aware that playing to Dump's naivete, and monstrous ego (not to mention low popularity at home) provides a unique avenue towards getting what they want, and they're going to play it for all it's worth.
I saw this in another article about the trip on the same site and I just had to laugh:
This miracle can be yours, Pompeo said. The choice now lies with North Korea and its people.
What a f'ing JOKE, comparing NK and Vietnam.
Vietnam is a sub-tropical country with warm weather, warm people, beautiful beaches, and an interesting native and colonial history, coupled with delicious food popular the world over. It has strong 'ties' to America due to the unjust war we fought against their people (leading plenty of Americans nowadays having a soft-spot for the place, and wishing to visit and spend money there), and it used to be a French colony, so there's a strong European connection with the Nation as well.
NOT TO MENTION 'hostilities' with that country ended many decades ago ...
OH, and it's not a fucking brutal communist dictatorship, and it's government hasn't send Americans back home with brain damage in a LOT of years.
For Dump's people to even be attempting to sell Chinese Client State NK and it's leader KJU on the idea that if they just cotton up to the Trump regime they'll soon be competing with the recent prosperity of Vietnam ... Well, I'm quite certain he'd see that as an insult to his intelligence. Might as well be trying to get some Eastern Russian province to secede and become a US Protectorate, because after all ... you could be the next Hawaii!

(15,543 posts)I told you. The republicans are a poltroonish pack of Velveeta-eating Surrender Monkeys. Now they are packing their very own Draft-dodger-in-Chief, Dirty Donny, off to Helsinki to surrender some more to the russians, who are making war on the USA.
