Donnie is such an idiot on trade he thinks a deficit means we're "losing"

I think this is the extent of his understanding.

He doesn't understand that because we're a rich nation, it's natural for us to use our riches to buy goods from around the world. So on balance, we import more than we produce.

This is not surprising and not in and of itself a problem. A trade deficit *may* be part of a trade problem.

But Donnie doesn't understand anything about trade. He thinks the deficit means we're losing, so that's the "problem" he's pretending to "solve".

If the trade war crap ends with many more tariffs all over the place and we have much less international trade but overall we have a surplus, he'd think that's a "win".

Win-win is not a viable concept in the zero-sum world.
You can only "win" if your opponent "loses" also.

We see how black/white he thinks....not only do you make a guy lose, but you then stomp on him.
