That jerk assaulted the kid and stole his property and there's no excuse for that. Totally appropriate that he was arrested IMO.

5. Considering what could have happened, stealing a hat may have been the most pacifist way

to stop two young punkie kids who were running their mouth. That is, assuming a conversation about lynching was exchanged between the two, loudly. Because there was going to be some kind of interaction if they did -- and they should have known that. I'm not saying it was right, just a risk that most normal, reasonable people wouldn't take.

If that is the case, the theft was an act of civil disobedience. He will pay for it, but in the long run, the two kids will have learned a lesson that might save their life because they'll know better next time.

Now, if it was just about getting offended by a MAGA hat, then no sympathy for the guy.

6. That's kind of a big assumption.

And forgetting about the hat, which, by the way, was theft not "civil disobedience", throwing the drink in the kid's face is assault. If he felt threatened, escalating it by assaulting the boy instead of just removing himself from the situation would have been pretty stupid. And if he was able to walk away...….and with the hat...….without anyone trying to stop or interfere with him after throwing the drink, it stands to reason that he could have before doing so.

You are correct that the term "civil disobedience" is improperly applied here, but the man was willing to accept the consequences. If those punks were making jokes about lynching, I can understand why this happened. I would not use the same method, but I understand why he did what he did.

On the other hand, if it was just about the hat, then there is no sympathy for him.

…....hear what he said to the kid just after tossing the drink as he began to walk away. He doesn't sound like he was feeling all kinds of threatened by a kid half his age and half his size. No defense for it. None.

I'm all for defending our own, but this guy just looks like a thug, regardless of his politics.

When discussions during the iraq 'conflict' were concerns about
civilian casualties. "Gonna make an omelet..gotta break a few
eggs."

I would apply that to those thinking these instances are , illegal,
over the top?..The omelet would be eradication of any gop
politicos position...Send the bastards home if they can't take
our anger and frustration.
