'It's burning people out':Trump aides whine about 'viciousness' of private citizens cursing them out

‘It’s burning people out’: Trump aides whine about ‘viciousness’ of private citizens cursing them out in public
Brad Reed 09 JUL 2018 AT 08:16 ET

Several Trump administration officials are increasingly feeling bitter about the nasty treatment they’re receiving from their fellow Americans when they venture out in public.

In a lengthy Washington Post story about Trump officials getting publicly shamed by private citizens, Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway reveals that a man recently told her she should be “ashamed” of herself while she was in a New Jersey grocery store.

Conway says that she responded to the insult with a stiff upper lip, however.

“What am I gonna do?” she tells the Post. “Fall apart in the canned vegetable aisle?”

Similarly, Trump aide Stephen Miller recently found himself getting cursed out by bartender at a sushi bar — and in response, the Post reports, Miller threw away the $80 worth of takeout sushi he had just bought from the restaurant.

Back in the Runny RayGun years they wanted to win no matter what the cost. The end would justify the means. Moderate repubs fell by the wayside. It was OK to lie cheat and steal in order to win a victory. Things have declined since then. And that is how they came up with a candidate like Trump. The current crop of whining (R)s apparently never heard the old axiom ... be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.

They promote policies of hate and division then act like poor little snowflakes when they get pushback. No sympathy for sociopaths that plan and carry out stealing babies/children, not tracking them and sending some to disappear forever in foster homes (sex slavers or pedophiles?) while major donors make mega bucks caging the kids in overcrowded facilities, not providing emotional assistance to the youngest ones, not even changing the babies diapers or giving them any comfort when they cry, not providing interpreters who speak their dialects if they don't speak Spanish or English. All you ever heard from these snowflakes is how being inside The Beltway was like living in a bubble. They were isolated from "real people" and situations. Well, welcome to the real world, boys and girls. We hate your boss, and since you don't have any qualms about working for him, that makes you a useless POS, too. And we'll tell you. The fucking gloves are off. Don't dare talk to us about "civility" after what you did to Obama for 8 years.

And as for Stephen Miller...I'm assuming he paid for the sushi before he threw it out. That'll teach 'em, huh Stephen?

They really are snowflakes at heart, aren't they? They are so used to people on the left taking the high road, being silent & civil, and taking it on the chin. Being proper, assured that the checks and balances system will take care of the neo-Nazi policies of the government.

But when the checks and balances system isn't working because of corruption, when children are being harmed, when being civil simply allows the policies to go up a notch with each passing month...well, at least SAYING something is the right thing to do (within limitations). It's the least an American can do.

I thought conservatives were all for criticizing people for their lifestyle choices? Certainly Conway has chosen her current job; at least liberals aren't lobbying Congress to outlaw her and her choices, unlike what Conway's cohort is doing.

You can always make a different choice, Kellyanne.

They are given media attention when they say outlandish things and are given airtime for interviews. Then they get upset when they get challenged by the media or shamed/ridiculed by the public.

They knew, or should have known, to expect this.

Each and every day, they stretch themselves to ratchet up the level of unacceptable talk and behaviors, so they shouldn't at all be shocked or personally hurt that the coarseness is reciprocal. If they don't like what they're being subjected to, perhaps it's past time for them to question why it is that they find themselves in this situation. They need to either leave the situation in which they've prostrated themselves for or have a personal discussion with the one most guilty of its concoction. If Cheetolini found his acolytes abandoning him en masse, he might change his tone. Well, not likely, but when a movement dies it's usually because the participants lose interest.

When I was an undergraduate, many years ago, I spent a lot of time studying the 20th century from around 1920 through the 1980s.

As part of this study, I read a lot of literature written soldiers of the various nations fighting in the Second World War, both axis and allies.

One vignette happens in France around 1943. A couple of German landsers (regular Wehrmacht, not SS) were having a picnic in the French countryside along the shore of a small river. They see some French people on the other shore and wave. The French people shout angrily at the two Germans, throw some rocks and then run away.

The young German landser poignantly expresses his shock at the feverish hatred the French people showed for he and his comrade, their anger and their fear. From his perspective, you see, the whole war was a lark, a happy extension of the fun camping and hiking activities they did in Hitler Youth.

Now, I was struck, so many years ago when reading this innocent account. Note that I use the word 'innocent' on purpose, because the young German who wrote the account was still quite innocent. He had purposely ignored rumors of camps, and any signs of the horrible things Hitler's legions were doing. Of course, later in his account, he expresses shock and dismay at the concentration camps, the Holocaust, the utter destruction of Germany and so on.

But, at that time, on that idyllic day, there in Vichy France on the picturesque shore of a bubbling little river, his innocence was first shaken.

**********************

Well, now that was kind of a long thing. Sorry.

But think about it this way - for many of these Trumpers, they've had decades of propaganda, from Rambo to Reagan, from Vietnam to Desert Storm, from 911 to the drone policies. As Fox watchers and AM conservative talk radio listeners, they have been propagandized to gloss over violations of human rights in favor of the national interest. They have been well coached by very well-funded 'news' sources to ignore things like torture, rendition and the separation of children from their families. The Koch brothers, after all, do have some government contracts. And they want MORE.

So, for many rank and file Trumpers, it is still a lark - hey now we're in power. Let's ignore these snow flakes and take it for a ride!

Like the young German, the naive ones will continue to have their innocence shaken by demonstrations like this. My hope is that enough of them will be awakened to how brutal this regime is before it is too late. Already stories of some ICE people who have resigned over these brutal policies. I suspect scores of people have resigned in the face of often illegal and always thoughtless and casually brutal orders.

I don't know how all this will turn out, but I still have some hope.

My sympathy is limited for Trump administration apparatchiks. On the one hand, I do believe in civility, and hope to see it restored in my lifetime. On the other hand, this Administration has been practicing the politics of cruelty almost since Inauguration Day, and anyone who works for it ought to have the good sense to realize it.

EDIT: As the old saying goes: “Lie down with dogs, wake up with fleas.”

There are many things I care very deeply about like innocent babies & children being torn from their parents; the elderly, disabled, sick getting the health care and financial help they need; human and civil rights, equality, legitimate, fair & uncompromised elections; treating animals humanely... things like that that truly decent human beings care about and that you, Trump and those who aid and abet you, like Teapublicons & Putin, obviously do NOT. You fascist buttwipes getting a good dose of karma with more on the way is something I feel only a bit of schadenfreude about.
