I thought divers used scuba tanks filled with compressed air unless they were doing deep sea stuff.

Scuba tanks are just compressed air. I think they are just using the faulty term "oxygen" tank.

Other reports I have read refer to them as "compressed air tanks".

Normally they are simply filtered and dehumidified compressed air.

I'm pretty sure pure oxygen would be a really bad move under these circumstances. I imagine it might help them as they are waiting but not on their way out. Increased oxygen levels often means increased energy.

Thai cave rescue: Four more boys pulled from flooded cave

<snip>

"Four more members of a youth soccer team were pulled from a flooded cave in a second round of rescue operations in Thailand on Monday. The 12 boys and their coach were trapped in the cave for two weeks.

Four were rescued over the weekend. On Monday, four more were rushed to a hospital.

The new stage started around 11 a.m. local time (midnight ET), and operations halted at night, a source confirmed to CBS News. Four boys and their coach remained inside the cave."

Two rescue runs. And 4 boys brought out both times so 8 boys are out. Amazing and wonderful. Still anxious 'til everyone is out safely.

from the "why did they go in there in the first place" to the "how could they have possibly been found". If you're up to it, you might want to make an OP of it.

Thanks for the explanation!

The retrievals are getting faster: "Our rescuers can [now]
shorten the operation time by two hours," he says. "Over
100 including 18 international cave divers took part in today’s
operation." #thamluangcave

They are afraid of the upcoming typhoon that caused so much damage in Japan. They are going to move all out as soon as practical.

The Prime Minister visited to give encouragement to the divers and workers

"So far the obstacles and weather has been about what we expected"

"We expect good news in the next 24 hours"

The officers gave casual remarks in a very relaxed manner, they clearly believe that the remaining 5 will be able to leave the cave.

Gave thanks for the massive cooperation by people in Thailand and international friends.

(Answer to report's question) " We can't guarantee when it will be finished but if the conditions remain the same as yesterday then it will be finished in 20 hours".

"The four that came out today are in better condition than the first group. The first group health has improved a great deal and they are eating solid food"
